For Zion's sake I will not hold my peace
and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest." Isaiah 62. FREEMAN CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES P.O. Box 35661 Houston, Texas 77235-5661 E-mail: bernards@sbcglobal.net OUR WEB SITE < www.freeman.org > ========== Freeman Center Chanukah Appeal for Support Let us be Maccabees and fear not the evil Amalikites who defile the Holy Temple, Let us drive them from the Temple Mount and re-sanctify the Temple. This is the true meaning of Chanukah. It is not some pagan gift giving season designed to emulate the Christmas of the the gentiles. As we approach the end of the tax year, it is important to remember the Freeman Center. All donations are tax deductible under IRS 501 (C) 3. Remember, we opposed Oslo in 1993 and Obama in 1997 (before his first election). We believed in the late Rav Meir Kahane and Dr. Baruch Goldstein. We supported prayer for Jews on the Temple mount before it was a popular issue. We opposed discrimination in housing for Jews. We opposed the anti-Zionist Supreme court and the Israeli media. We believe in massive, rapid construction in Yesha. We opposed the expulsion of Jews from Gaza. Politically we called for the formation of a National, Zionists, and religious coalition to solve Israel's security and economic problems. We have always believed that instead of Hasbara we should be fighting a massive PR battle to counter the lies and slanders against the Israel and the Jewish People. We are not fat with funds, like mainstream Jewish organisations. We have sacrificed money for maintaining a True Zionist ideology. WE DESERVE YOUR SUPPORT.....Bernard ================ (Please contribute to The Freeman Center's essential educational activities, if you like receiving our mail. If not Now When? HARD FACTS ISRAEL MUST FACE
And The Actions They Must Do By Bernard J. Shapiro 1. The world will never accept Israel’s right to live in peace. 2. The Arabs can kill hundreds of thousands and no one will say anything. One Arab killed by Israel will raise a storm in the media. 3. The current conflict in Gaza is a good example. Hamas uses civilians to make Israel look bad when they attack military structures and targets. Israel uses the Iron Dome system to protect its civilians. Thus the death toll looks disproportionate. The media uses this to damage Israel’s image. 4. Israel supplied the concrete, electricity and fuel to build the tunnels that allow terrorists to attack its civilians. This MUST stop. The media uses this to damage Israel’s image. 4. Israel supplied the concrete, electricity and fuel to build the tunnels that allow terrorists to attack its civilians. This MUST stop. 5. Instead of sending Israeli soldiers into the tunnels to destroy them and risk death, there are other methods. Israel can pump high potency gas and air into the tunnels and then light it. The fire will spread throughout the tunnel system and destroy Hamas and their rockets. 6. Israel does not have to agree to a cease fire until Hamas is destroyed and Gaza returned to Israel. The disengagement was a disaster and we all know it. 7. Jews should once more be allowed to re-build their homes there. 8. The disaster of leaving Gaza should never be repeated in Yesha (Judea and Samaria). Can you imagine rockets raining down on the Israel’s coastal plain from the hill overlooking the high concentration of population and industry. THE FREEMAN CENTER’S PLAN FOR ISRAEL’S FUTURE SECURITY Several factors are important for Israel’s. Israel must greatly increase its population through massive aliya. The dramatic rise in anti-Semitism in the world make this even more important. A larger population will need a strong economic base to provide jobs and a huge increase in housing for the new immigrants. The ridiculous restrictions on building in Yesha must be ended. No nation or organization in the world should tell Jews where to build in their own country. The idea that Israel must put its building “on hold” until “peace” is achieved is absurd. There will be peace with the terrorists “when elephants can fly.” The “so called peace process” was always a hoax. Time to end the fantasy and wake up to the hard facts. As oil revenues come online from Israeli drilling, more money needs to be put into military research and development. Some of the funds must go into venture capital funds to attract investors and build a larger economy to provide employment to Israel’s growing population. Everyone should be mobilized in the new economy, including orthodox Jews, women, Druze and Christian citizens. Hostile Arabs, who are not happy living in a Zionist country should lose there right to vote and be given funds and tickets to leave the Israel. We do not need disloyal people within our borders. The right of Jews to play on the Temple Mount in peace should be protected and respected. If Arabs riot or attack the Jews they should be arrested and expelled. Israel should not be forced to fight the Arabs every few years in some strange kabuki dance of death. The Freeman Center recommends the General Patton principle: Move fast and destroy the enemy and force a surrender on our terms. Israel’s demands for “quiet for quiet” just delay a few years the next battle. And more Israel soldiers killed and wounded. There should be no cease fire. In fact, The siege should be tightened: no electricity fuel or supplies (even food) until surrender. No more Mr. Nice Guy. The world be damned. Where were they during the Holocaust when we need help. Be strong, Bibi. Israel has a major ally better than Obama and Kerry. It is the Almighty who protects His People Israel with a Mighty Hand. Bernard J. Shapiro is the Director of the Freeman Center For Strategic Studies and the editor of its publications. Wednesday, April 9. 2014MY PASSOVER MESSAGE 2014 - Joyous But Frustrated
MY PASSOVER MESSAGE 2014
Joyous But Frustrated By Bernard J. Shapiro Freeman Center For Strategic Studies Why, I ask myself are the Israelis so difficult to understand and so stupid in so many ways. We all know that many Jews have achieved great heights of intellectual supremacy. Then why are Israeli political leaders intellectually sub-normal. Why do some Israelis act like they stepped straight out of the pages of George Orwell’s book "1984" and speak a strange form of Hebrew called newspeak. I today’s headlines some hotheads slashed the tires of some border police and IDF vehicles. Not nice and we all can agree that this is delinquent behavior. BUT IS IT TERRORISM! The whole Israeli establishment rises up against "so called" price tag attacks. No evidence, no trials, no actual guilty parties. The government rushes to destroy Jewish homes in retaliation. I ask you one question: Where is the outrage over hundreds of attacks on Jews by Arabs? Jews are abused on the Temple Mount everyday and the Israeli Police think this is Kosher. Is this a Jewish Country or what. Why do the courts, border police, the Left Political Parties, the universities have "carte blanc" to attack the Jew. University professors inculcate anti-Zionism in their students. WE MUST STOP THIS MADNESS! The High Court assumes the power to overthrow the Democratic Rule of the Knesset. This must stop. The courts defend "fake" rights of Arabs over Jews. I object to this and demand JUSTICE for the Jewish People in Eretz Yisrael. Israel never should have sighed the absurd Oslo agreements. They should be terminated immediately. Much damage has already been done, but much can be undone. Steps to reclaim Zionism: 1. Extend Israel sovereignty to all the Land of Israel from the River to the Sea 2. Arrest and prosecute all terrorist leaders of PLO, Fatah, Hamas et all (Hang Abbas, Exkrat, Barghouti, Rajoub from the highest tree in Israel after a proper trial). 3. Leftist anti-Zionists Jews terrorist collaborators should be sent to prison for long terms. 4. Huge industrial scale building of houses and apartments for Jews should be built from the River to the congested Mediterranean coast. No more 50 houses here and 100 there. If you build, the Jews will come from all over the diaspora. Especially if the housing is cheap, making transition easy. 5. Arabs should be subject to strict taxation like Jews. TIME FOR ISRAEL AND AMERICA TO END THEIR POLICY OF RESTRAINT
By Bernard J. Shapiro An editorial for The Maccabean Online (July 2006) "He who is merciful when he should be cruel will in the end be cruel when he should be merciful."...Midrash Samuel (Jewish rabbinic text from early Middle Ages) From the very early days of the Haganah and continuing with the emerging Israel Defense Forces (IDF), there was a policy of self-restraint or havlagah. This policy mandated that defenders could only return fire, hold their positions, and never to engage in counter-terror. This policy was based on the false premise that the Arab masses did not support the war against the Yishuv (the Jewish population before independence) and then the State of Israel and would be brought into the conflict if Israeli forces were too aggressive. There were some good and practical reasons for restraint in the early days. There was legitimate f! ear that the British would cut off immigration if the Jews were to go on the offensive against the Arabs. Havlagah was essentially a Haganah (Labor/Socialist) policy and many supporters of Jabotinsky\'s Revisionist Zionist movement broke off from them to form fighting units (Irgun Zvai Leumi and Stern) unrestrained by that policy. The modern IDF was dominated by Labor and quickly adopted the policy of restraint and the concept of "purity of arms" as its official doctrine. The later reinforced the former by adding that a soldier should never have to obey an illegal order to commit some atrocity. The enemy, including prisoners of war, should be treated with dignity and civilian populations should be spared as much harm as possible, even if this causes greater Israeli casualties. There was some flexibility in this strict moral code. This policy of restraint may have been practical during the pre-state days and even during the! early years of Israeli independence. These periods were characterized by weakness and relative dependence on foreign goodwill. Following the Six Day War in 1967, the need for havlagah decreased and the damage it caused began to become more evident. Israel became the preeminent power in the Middle East, yet failed to grasp the strategic opportunities that came with such dominance. Here are some of the historical highlights of the failed policy of restraint: 1. Following the Six Day War (1967) and the capture of Jerusalem, Moshe Dayan turned over control of Judaism\'s most sacred place, the Temple Mount, to Moslem authorities. He did it to appease their sensibilities to the Israeli capture of the city. Jewish rights were ignored to please the defeated Arabs, who had plotted our destruction. Dayan also prevented a mass exodus of Arabs from YESHA, which ultimately led to the problems we face today. 2. During the War of Attrition with Egypt (1969-70), the Israeli forces adopted primarily a defensive posture. They built a system of bunkers (The Bar Lev Line) along the Suez Canal. Israeli soldiers were heavily pounded daily by Egyptian artillery. Finally they began to use aircraft to strike targets deep into Egypt. The policy of restraint kept them from striking anything but military and minor economic targets. Israeli soldiers died because the government was inhibited from causing Egypt \'real\' pain. 3. The Yom Kippur War of 1973 is a classic example of restraint run amok. Israeli military intelligence did not fail to recognize the approaching danger as has been the common account. In fact, Israel\'s leaders made the political decision not to utilize the great power of the IDF to crush the Egyptian and Syrian armies that they KNEW were planning to attack. Thousands of Israeli soldiers died needlessly. 4. The Camp David Accord with Egypt was another example of the failure to exert Israeli power. The oil fields of Sinai would have given Israel economic independence from America. The cost of redeployment from Sinai placed Israel in almost permanent debt to American diplomacy (often pro-Arab). Did Israel achieve anything worthwhile at Camp David? I think not and believe history will bear me out. Egypt has become one of the most ant-Semitic and hostile Arab countries in the world. As a result of Camp David, the Egyptian army now threatens Israel, having been equipped with the most modern American weapons. 5. During the War in Lebanon (1982), the IDF reached Beirut and then failed to complete the destruction of the PLO. Our enemies were allowed to escape and prepare to fight another day. Why didn\'t the Israeli Navy sink the ships loaded with PLO troops (including Arafat) as they fled Beirut? RESTRAINT! 6. In 1987 the intifada began and the Israeli forces showed great restraint and thus were incapable of crushing it. Of course, Israel received no credit in the Western media for such restraint. The failure to defeat this uprising began a process of demoralization among the Israeli population. 7. The Persian Gulf War (1991) and the SCUD attacks on Israel led to further demoralization. The failure to adequately respond to Iraq\'s aggression and the humiliating sealed rooms, led to a rapid decline in Israeli morale and desire to defend itself. More and more Israelis began to feel impotent, weak and fatigued with the continuous battle for survival. The Oslo Accords were the logical outcome of this depression and feeling that they could not sustain the struggle. 8. The Oslo Accords (1993) were the ultimate failure of the policy of restraint. Israel like America actually was very powerful. The IDF was unequaled in the Middle East while the US was the most powerful nation in the world.! Yet despite this power, Israel\'s leaders, were ready to grant equal status to a band of murderers and ultimately create a state of "Palestine" which would challenge its right to the Land and its capital of Jerusalem. 9. Israeli forces in Lebanon should have been given a free hand to \'punish\' all those who facilitate attacks on them including Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. There should be no more agreements that tie Israeli hands. The damage caused by havlagah (restraint) has been immense and it far past time to reverse that policy. Americans have been viciously attacked in Africa, Yeman, and Saudi Arabia. The attempt to try to criminalize terrorism has been a dreadful mistake. Terrorism is sponsored by states who allow their territory and funds to help the organization of terrorist. The Oslo agreement allowed Arafat to set up terrorist headquarters near Israel\'s heartland. From there he sent terrorists to attack Israel. With plausible deniability he claims "he is not responsible." Dr. Aaron Lerner of the Independent Media Review & Analysis in Israel reports that Palestinians are celebrating attacks against USA across the West Bank Israel Radio reported this afternoon that young Palestinians across the West Bank are celebrating the terrorist attacks against the USA - waving Palestinian flags and handing out candy. There are reports of shooting in some places but it is not clear if it is Palestinian police trying to clear streets of celebrants or Palestinians shooting in the air.The largest crowd, according to Israel Radio, is in the Balata refugee camp. The American State Department policy of equating terrorist and defender equally must stop. This kind of moral equivalency allows the terrorist to believe he can do no wrong. Both America and Israel must massively and disproportionately retaliate for terrorist attacks. The murderers of Americans and Israelis must be stopped. It is not impossible but it will be a long and difficult battle. ========== Bernard J. IDF troops on duty near Rosh Hanikra IDF troops on duty near Rosh Hanikra Photo: Reuters All indications are that the gunman who shot and killed an IDF soldier on the Lebanon border Sunday night, without any provocation or cause, was a Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) member who acted alone. Urgent questions remain unanswered: Why did the LAF soldier pull the trigger? If he was indeed a rogue attacker, how will the LAF deal with him? And why did the IDF allow St.-Sgt. Maj. Shlomi Cohen, 31, to travel alone near the border in an unarmored vehicle at night? As the IDF investigates, the incident will serve as a reminder that the Lebanese border, usually calm and stable since the ceasefire that ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War, can still produce sudden outbursts of deadly violence at any time. Related: • IDF officer killed in cross-border shooting laid to rest In today’s increasingly volatile region, such incidents have the potential to spark a wider escalation, one that could see Hezbollah and the IDF begin to trade blows. In fact, senior IDF commanders are seeing large-scale preparations by Hezbollah for its next clash with Israel. The IDF too is readying itself. Counteracting the explosive risks are stabilizing factors. First among them is Israeli deterrence, which remains in place, based on the enemy’s understanding of the devastating firepower the IDF can employ. To bolster this deterrence, IDF units on the northern border have been given enough flexibility to respond immediately and forcefully to attacks against them. Additionally, the IDF’s methodical decision-making process, based on a careful assessment of the situation, helps prevent knee-jerk reactions. That Hezbollah remains neckdeep in sectarian Shi’ite-Sunni fighting in Syria and faces growing numbers of attacks on its home court of Lebanon suggest it stands little to gain from opening up a second front against Israel. Therefore, its involvement in Sunday’s incident appears unlikely. For these reasons, the IDF chose to respond with restraint. (The shots fired by IDF soldiers soon after the initial shooting were in response to suspicious border activity and did not constitute retaliation.) The restraint is a reflection of the fact that it is not in either side’s interest to escalate. This is especially true for the LAF, which, militarily speaking, is weak and would stand to lose a great deal in any clash with Israel. Another stabilizing factor lies in the regular meetings by IDF officials with the LAF, as well as with representatives of the UN Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) to discuss border security. The talks are aimed at trying to prevent unnecessary developments. The security dialogue will now enable the IDF to demand firm answers from the Lebanese military and, no less importantly, to deliver a clear warning that any repeat will jeopardize the border’s stability in the future. ============= Please contribute to The Freeman Center's essential educational activities. by Bernard J. Shapiro An Editorial for the January Maccabean Online Freeman Center For Strategic Studies Since I completed my book, THE BATTLE FOR ERETZ YISRAEL, Jew, G-d and Israel, 1992-2011, I have not written very much. There is a good reason for that and it is a sad one. It seems, as the French long ago said: " The more things change, the more they stay the same." Frankly, I am getting bored in my old age. I once believed that the rise of Israel took the Jews out of the Ghettos of Europe and the horror of the Holocaust. But it seems that it was easier to take the Jew out of the Ghetto than to take the Ghetto out of the Jew. Once proud Sabras (native Israelis) now let Arab teenagers throw rocks and Molotov cocktails at them. They are trapped on the roads of the Holy Land, attacked with sniper fire and lynched. The Israeli police, border patrol and Israel Defense Forces let it happen.. Political correctness has run amok. Jews can not pray on the Temple Mount, their holiest site. It is the site where Abraham, our father, was tested by G-d and proved his willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac as G-d commanded.. Arabs have re-written history and now claim that their was never a Jewish connection to our Holiest Site. They claim that Abraham, Jesus and other Jewish prophets were Moslems. They continue to destroy all traces of our connection to the site and the Israeli government does nothing. I would not tolerate it! I would throw the Waqf off the Temple Mount and replace them with unbiased Jewish police. Jews, Moslems and Christians will, of course be free to worship there. From: Esther Pollard (Mrs. Jonathan Pollard) When a man's fate and his very life hang in the balance, the Globe and Mail has an obligation to do its homework first, instead of recycling old canards and allegations. Contrary to what the Globe and Mail published, here are the facts: 1) JONATHAN POLLARD DID NOT COMMIT TREASON He was never accused of treason. He was never indicted for treason. He was not charged with spying against the US, only with spying on behalf of Israel. 2) JONATHAN POLLARD DID NOT COMPROMISE US SOURCES AND METHODS This is an old canard that the CIA trots out for the media with predictable regularity. In fact, Jonathan Pollard never had access to sources-and methods, or codes information . Even though the real culprits, (Aldrich Ames, David Boone and others), who compromised this sensitive information have since been arrested, the CIA has never stopped scapegoating Pollard for their crimes. 3) JONATHAN POLLARD DID NOT HARM US SECURITY Jonathan Pollard has never been indicted for harming the United States, its agents, its property or its installations. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE THAT WOULD SUPPORT SUCH A CHARGE. The only information that Jonathan Pollard gave over to the Israeli Government was information related to the vital security of the State of Israel - information that the US had legally pledged to share with Israel. Expectations, Satisfactions and Frustrations by Bernard J. Shapiro My first excitement about Israel came in 1956 with the Sinai Campaign. My grandmother was a leading member of Misrachi and we talked about Israel some and there was always a blue and white Jewish National Fund box in her home. My grandfather Harry W. Freeman was one of the founders of the Zionist Organization of America in Houston. But it was not until Israel burst onto the front pages of The Houston Chronicle in 1956 that I really believed it was real. From that day on till today, I have read as much as possible about Israel. First books, magazines, faxes TV News. Now the Internet is a major source of news about Israel. In fact, my non-profit organization, the Freeman Center For Strategic Studies was a pioneer in Jewish advocacy with an early gopher before the World Wide Web was established. EXPECTATIONS Most of what I read and learned was from the David Ben-Gurion (Mapai - Labor Zionist) perspective. The other side of Israel’s story was mostly suppressed in Israeli history and literature. As a leader of both Hillel and founder of the Student Zionist Organization (UC Berkeley - 1960-64), I caught the attention of the Jewish Agency and was aided in my aliya to Israel (1964). by Bernard J. Shapiro, Freeman Center For Strategic Studies - July 13, 3013By YUVAL DISKIN, Jerusalem Post July 13 Despite his former Shin Bet military and intelligence service, this is the most stupid strategic analysis of Israel's policy I have ever read. Diskin, an extreme leftist can not even see the what is right before his eyes. He also learns nothing from history. He is still pushing the "peace hoax" with the "so called Palestinians" long after the hoax is 20 years old with tens of thousands of Israelis killed and maimed. He still blames Israel for lack of negotiations. I oppose negotiations, because one should never negotiate what is rightfully theirs. He cites false demographic data, ignoring the fine work of Yoram Ettinger. He also ignores the fact that birthrates change and Israel is subject to immigration. A strong Zionist approach to the Arab minority problem would cause voluntary emigration of unhappy Arabs from Israel. What would make them unhappy---not being able to kill Jews and convert Israel into Palestine. It does not bother me, if they are unhappy. Monday, February 18. 2013Good News From Israel -Feb 17

A Saga of 4000 Years by Bernard J. Shapiro January 27, 2013 FREEMAN CENTER FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES P.O. The Catholic Church was as bad as Jews believed possible, but Lutheranism was worse. Please read his article at the end of my commentary. As I have written many times before, I fear a Second Holocaust. The reasons for this fear are many and well substantiated. The level of anti-Semitism is rising rapidly and have now reached the level of the 1930's. There are four kinds of anti-Semitism that today are mixing in today’s world into a toxic formula for Jews. They are: 1. Traditional European Nationalist anti-Semitism. Jews are seen as a foreign race affecting the purity of the various nations. 2. The Christian religion, evolving between Catholic and protestant Jew haters. Various sects believe in the false accusations of deicide, blood libel and devil worship. Some just simply "replacement theology" (G-d’s Israel is replaced by Christians). 3. The Islamic religious traditions based on the Koran. The Islamist philosophy ranks all nations servants of the true religion founded by Muhammad. It is a cruel and cold faith where murderers of Jews, Christians, Hindus and other non-Moslems are insured a place in paradise. 4. Once Jews became sovereign in their own land as the Holy Scriptures predicted, many non Jews began to fear retribution for the evil they meted out to the Jews over the last 3500 years. Notes From A Frustrated Zionist
Not a Nice Jewish Boy by Bernard J. Shapiro, Chairman and Editor of Publications Freeeman Cednter For Strategic Studies Like just about every Zionist, I am in terrible pain because of the continued diplomatic and strategic imbecility of the Israeli government. That doesn't mean that all members are equally bad, only that as a group they continue doing stupid things together. Examples: 1. Since Oslo (1993) they have chosen to empower our enemies. 2. The policy of retreat and appeasements which never worked with any nation in the history of the world, became an Israel strategic policy. 3. The minimize the importance of the PA bid for UN recognition as if the fact that they have already lost the battle for unbiased history. Nowhere in their thinking is the concept of fighting back. 4. Israeli's raised since the founding of the State of Israel to be Lions of Judah are led into battlefields, like lambs to the slaughter. Israeli civilians, woman, children and the elderly are forced to run for cover during missile barrages. Terrorists rip their bodies apart as if they were not even human. It all makes me think of the Holocaust. Never Again??? 5. Since 1982 (Lebanon) the leftist establishment has used every Dirty Non-Democratic Trick in the book to destroy Zionism and the morale of true Israeli Patriots. 6. Israel's Attorney General, the Police, Border Patrol, Supreme Court, News Media, Shin Bet (Israel's Secret Service) and all the leftist pro Arab political parties (plus Arab terrorist political parties) all conspire to crush the democratic Zionist will of 95% of Israel's Jewish population. 7. To me, this is not Kosher. Only a change in the electoral system can force a change. Only a change in all branches of Israel's government from the Justice Department through the IDF Officer Corp and especially the powers of the Prime Minister. A quick look at Israeli shows that each minister and the very powerful PM have the ability to do the opposite of what they are elected to do. 8. This sickens and revolts me. I have written about it many time in the past. Unfortunately the left has emasculated the Zionists, dating back to the Altalena. And before that Jabotinsky was silenced in Europe, as he warned about the coming Holocaust. [My grandfather, Harry W. Freeman was also waning Jews all over Texas about the dangers of Nazism in the 30's.] Continue reading "NOTES OF A FRUSTRATED ZIONIST- Not a Nice Jewish Boy" Wednesday, November 21. 2012Bernard J. DESTROY THE HAMAS AND FATAH TERRORISTS SETTLE ALL OF ERETZ YISRAEL - RECLAIM THE TEMPLE MOUNT ========================== Bernard J. Shapiro Comments on "Ceasefire" A ceasefire with barbarians is not a ceasefire. The war is just postponed while Hamas and other terrorists are free to re-arm and fight another day. The cost to Israel of constant war is immense. My advice to the "learned" generals and politicians of Israel is simply: 1. Fight to win 2. Fight to destroy the enemy 3. Maximize not minimise civilian causulities as per Americans in WWII (Hiroshima and Dresden) 4. Islam is a barbarian blood worship cult that must be destroyed for Western Civilization to survive. 5. Jews will never be popular no matter how hard they try to be "nice Jewish boys and girls." I say be Lions of Judah and Roar. 6. There is no such thing as International Law, since Power is the driving force in all disputes between nations. 7. International players including American should never be consulted or depended upon the protect the Jewish People. 8. Left to the mercies of the West, Israel would have been destroyed long ago. 9. The thrust for delusional Peace beginning after 82 has caused a major deterioration in Israel Strategic Planing and the morale of its population. 10. ISRAEL'S 'FUTILE GESTURES'
By Charles Bybelezer September 6, 2012 -Daily Mailer, FrontPage Recently, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to extend well-wishes on the occasion of Id al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of Ramadan. He did so despite the fact that Abbas continues to shun negotiations with the Jewish state and again has threatened to pursue a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood at the UN General Assembly in September. Netanyahu’s “goodwill gesture” reportedly was followed by similar phone calls to Abbas by Israeli envoy Yitzhak Molcho and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. Molcho also called PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad. The calls came on the heels of other goodwill gestures made by Israel over the last few months aimed at coaxing the Palestinians back to the negotiating table; including, but not limited to: 1. The issuance of thousands of additional Israeli work permits to Palestinian laborers; 2. The advance to the PA on the eve of Ramadan of approximately NIS 200 million in levies collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinians so that government salaries could be paid; 3. The signing of an economic accord with the PA in order to enhance trade; 4. The signing of a deal to end a hunger strike by Palestinians jailed in Israel, in which Israel even agreed to allow convicted terrorists to pursue academic studies; 5. The tabling of an offer, confirmed by PA Minister of Prisoner Affairs Issa Qaraqe, to release in four stages 125 Palestinian security prisoners, many of whom were convicted of murdering Israelis (the proposal was summarily rejected by Abbas, who demanded the prisoners be released simultaneously); 6. The transfer to the PA of the bodies of approximately 90 deceased terrorists, whose remains subsequently were glorified en masse in official ceremonies. Continue reading "ISRAEL'S 'FUTILE GESTURES' "

THE DAYS OF AWE (5773)
=== To all Freeman Center members and supporters and all Lovers of Zion We wish you a wonderful Shana Tova (Jewish New Year) filled with Joy, Health, Peace, Prosperity, Sweetness, Love and Security in the coming year. Please remember all our hard work with a tax deductible contribution toward our continued success in 5773. Please contribute to The Freeman Center's essential educational activities. Shapiro Chairman and Editor of all Publications As we approach the New Year 5773, I am reflecting over lifetime surpassing the biblical three score (20) and ten. I have seen a lot, learned a lot, suffered and been redeemed a lot. I am not a perfect Jew. I have many failings. The worst, I imagine, is my failure to understand Jewish ritual. Since I was very young, I never seemed to follow authority. It didn’t matter who it was: parent, political or religious leader. I was born a rebel and have been a rebel all my life. I was greatly influence by my grandfather, Harry W. Freeman, who had studied to be a Rabbi in the Russian-Polish Pale at the end of the 19th century. Like many young Jews of that period, he joined the Communist Party to overthrow the Czar. They believed that the Jews must be freed from the oppression and persecution that affected their daily life. The Czar’s secret police blessed him by driving him out of country and he escaped to America. This saved him from Nazi extermination and thus I live today by that Mazal. He landed in Galveston, became an attorney and founded the first chapter of ZOA in Houston as the real solution to the "Jewish Question." YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE
by Jack Berger Member of the Board of Directors Freeman Center For Strategic Studies October 17, 2011 “You are standing today, all of you (all generations) before Hashem, your G-d, from the heads of your tribes, your elders… your children… from the (highest) in society… to the drawer of your water, for you to pass into the covenant Hashem, your G-d in order to establish you today as a people to Him and that He will be a G-d to you… I call on heaven and earth today to bear witness against you. I have placed life and death before you, a blessing and a curse, you shall choose life so that you will live… to dwell on the land that I swore to your forefathers (to your fathers and grandfathers) and to Abraham, Isaac and to Jacob.” (Deut. 29-30) Looking at the world today I think back to the words of Charles Dickens, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us…” When I first read those words in high school, I believed that they were far removed from the rest of my life. America was in a simpler place. My only serious question was why wouldn’t Sandy Koufax pitch the first game of the World Series … after all was Yom Kippur really that big a deal and it wasn’t like he wore a kippah and kept kosher. It was a time when questions hadn’t been asked yet and didn’t need to be answered. Today has caught up with yesterday. For me, years before my Bar Mitzvah, I remember the words on our Day of Atonement. Words when secular Jewish friends of mine only came to synagogue one day a year – would show up on Yom Kippur to hear– “who will live and who will die…” The profundity of that one line and its finite reality, its focus, its simple yet unambiguous statement… is a statement that few Jews can turn away from or forget. The gift we have been given is the gift of time – money comes, money goes, our days are moments as part of an eternity that we are only blessed to know for a very short time. ISRAEL'S CHARACTER FLAWED LEADERSHIP
by David Basch Freeman Center For Strategic Studies October 16, 20011 "The Arabs do indeed believe in a policy of decisive defeat of Israel. What is more, unlike Israel, the Arabs have the manpower and the religious ideology to weather the war of attrition that Boobi acquiesces in...." At every stage of the conflict -- except for times before election -- Boobi Netanyahu has shown in his important acts that he is a true believer in the Arabs as partners to Israel's ultimate peace. Note that before every election Israelis heard Boobi's silver tongue going on record as backing uncompromising, hard line programs to beat back the designs of the Arab enemy. Yet, when in office, he consistently betrayed these right wing preferments. Continue reading "ISRAEL'S CHARACTER FLAWED LEADERSHIP"

ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION ORDERS AGAINS JEWISH NATIONALISTS
by ADINA KUTNICKI Freeman Center For Strategic Studies September 26, 2011 (Editor’s Note: The author variously uses the terms GSS [General Security Services], Shin Bet, Shabak, ISA [Israel Security Agency]. They are all names for Israel’s internal security service.] In western democracies, a person’s home is considered his castle. Therefore, if a government banishes a citizen from his home, the act must be based on a judicious interpretation of the law. The detainee must present a clear and present danger. Chief Justice Aharon Barak, previous president of the Supreme Court, underscored his belief in this principle, albeit not from a perspective which protects the rights of Jewish nationalists. On July 15, 2002, Justice Barak ruled in the Ajuri case: ”Our point of departure is that in principle removing a person from his dwelling place and forcibly moving him someplace else causes serious harm to his self respect, his freedom, and his possessions. A person’s home is not only a roof over his head, it is the means for establishing his physical and social relationships. A number of a person’s basic human rights are harmed when he is forcibly removed to another place , even if such a move does not involve an international crossing.” Tragically, his legal opinion was rendered in relation to the protection of the civil and human rights of terrorists! The security services recommended their expulsion from Nablus to Gaza, and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the terrorists. Even the pro-Arab B’tselem human rights organization is unhappy about administrative detention/expulsion orders, stating: “Undoubtedly the state should act determinedly against ‘settlers’ who harm Palestinians and their property, but the way to achieve this is via criminal proceedings and not administrative orders that are based on confidential information.” Continue reading "ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION ORDERS AGAINS JEWISH NATIONALISTS" Thursday, September 22. 2011NEW YEAR'S GREETING SHANA TOVA 5772
NEW YEAR'S GREETING SHANA TOVA 5772
By Bernard J. Shapiro Freeman Center For Strategic Studies September 22, 2011 My Dear Subscribers and Lovers of Zion, Another year has passed and we find Israel in a more perilous situation than any year since the War of Independence. The Israel Defense Forces are powerful and fully capable of destroying all enemies. But there is a mighty force that prevents the activation of this force to protect the People of Israel. That force is a polititical, media, judicial, secret service, border police and left wing military elite, who have chosen to permit Arab terrorist to gain dominance in our Holy Land. They deliberately prosecute, persecute and destroy the Builders of Zion and turn a blind eye to the pervasive theft of the Land of Israel by terrorists. When an Arab attacks a Jew, the Jew is prosecuted for defending himself. The Arab goes free to harass, steal and attack more Jews in the future. There is no deterrence. They laugh at the Jews, like the Nazis did during the Holocaust, as they striped them naked and marched them to their death. I will not be silent as the Israel, we prayed for over 2000 years, is destroyed by week and incompetent leadership. Leadership that has lost the Zionist passion of the Maccabees, Bar Kochba, Ben Gurion, Jabotinzky, Stern and Kahane. On this Rosh HaShona, may the Almighty give strength to his People Israel and courage to fight for survival, even if everyone in the World is against them. May the friends of the Freeman Center be blessed with Health, Love, Prosperity, Security and Peace.......Bernard PS. LET'S VOTE FOR INDEPENDENCE!!
By Steven Plaut Freeman Center For Strategic Studies September 16, 2011 As you know, much of the world is getting ready to recognize a “state” for “Palestinians” in coming days. The US may veto the vote in the Security Council to set up “Palestine” in Israeli lands, and then again maybe it will not veto it. Other countries are going ahead with plans to vote for “Palestine” in the General Assembly, to grant “Palestine” embassy space, to grant it formal recognition, and so on. After years of paying lip service to the righteous need for granting “Palestinians” a state, Netanyahu and his cowardly crew are scratching their heads about what to do and how to stop all this. The best Bibi has come up with is a plan to give a speech in that building on the East River near 42nd street. Continue reading "LET'S VOTE FOR INDEPENDENCE!!" PAYING AN INSTALLMENT ON THE TERRORISM BILL
by David Basch Freeman Center For Strategic Studies August 18, 2011 "Tit for tat responses by Israel -- the standard Israeli response to attack -- is merely an encouragement of the enemy." Israel this morning is paying another installment on the bill she incurred when she surrendered Gaza to the enemy and enabled Gaza to become a dangerous Arab military base. This fact needs to be called loudly to the attention of Israelis, who are among the most liberal, ideologically obsessed persons on earth. They have all too often followed the rosy line of the leftists that have led the nation to blunder after blunder, surrendering land, diplomatic posture, and moral standing. Confidence in the leftist way should have already been scuttled by its dismal failures. by David Basch Freeman Center For Strategic Studies June 10, 2011 "Unless Israel's people and government wake up immediately to the Arab knife being brought ever closer to the Israeli throat and develop effective tactics for Israel's survival ... through bringing the Arab war deep into enemy strongholds and denying him the means and the strategic position to defeat Israel, the dangerous possibilities of Israeli defeat forever linger. But the needed Israeli action can only be undertaken when Israel wakes up to the implacable nature of the enemy, ..." What supporter of Israel can have confidence in the Jewish State if up to this date the country refuses to recognize the reality of the 800 pound gorilla in the room, that the Arab goal is to destroy Israel? In that context, it is evident that the Arab enemy uses negotiations only as a means to further that deadly goal. That enemy tactic has worked splendidly for the Arabs, giving them a steady stream of step by step Israeli surrenders without the Arabs themselves having to make a single concession to Israel. It is not reassuring to contemplate that Israel remains in a perpetual strategic fog, unable to recognize the deadly aim of its Arab adversary. Failing to recognize this, Israel continually rejects decisive action against the enemy since it fears an angry Arab reaction that will foreclose what is the delusional possibility of a peace agreement. by David Bash Freeman Center For Strategic Studies May 13, 2011 "Has Israel at this point gone over the edge, beyond recouping the conditions of "secure and recognized borders" agreed to in UN Resolution 242,...?" Shimon Peres demonstrates that political views are more related to character than to facts. Given a personal character obsessed to be more righteous than any biblical divinity, the resulting views are correspondingly bizarre, going against necessities for defense and long term self preservation. That is the lesson we may learn from Peres's career. to prove this, just check out Peres's views as revealed in a recent interview in the Jerusalem Post. ISRAEL INDEPENDENCE AFTER 63 YEARS
by Bernard J. Shapiro Freeman Center For Strategic Studies May 9, 2011 No one should fool themselves into thinking that giving the Arabs of Judea and Samaria Jordanian citizenship would solve anything in the long run. Jordan is not as friendly (population wise) as we are led to believe. Though the government is helpful and friendly, that could change in the blink of an eye. Should American troops leave Iraq and it falls to Iran, the consequences would be severe for Israel. With Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza under Iranian control, it could easily extend its reach to Jordan and the Judean-Samarian ridge overlooking Israel's vulnerable coast. My Bottom Line (Conclusion) Israel's central problem is psychological and no amount of beautiful rhetoric and wonderful proposals can change that. When will the Nationalist Camp realize that we are "at war already" with the PLO/Hamas/Hezbollah supporting tyranny (the LEFT) that rules Israel? At what point will Israelis realize that the CIVIL WAR they fear, IS ALREADY TAKING PLACE AND THEY ARE LOSING? When will the true Zionists take over Israel and rid the country of the Arab and Jewish traitors. After 2000 years of homelessness, we are privaliged in this generation to see a new and productive Jewish State. Why do we let these evildoers threaten to take it from our hands. by Bernard J. Shapiro Freeman Center For Strategic Studies May 5, 2011 When I founded the Freeman Center back in 1992, I gave a copy of Bibi's book, A PLACE AMONG THE NATIONS, everyone joining. I was very impressed at the clear understanding of history and the Jewish place in it. I especially appreciated the chapter on Czechoslovakia and how it related to the current Arab-Israeli issues. Now, we see the pitiful image of Israel's PM running after the princes of Europe hat in hand. Does he have no pride? Does he not know how powerful Israel is really? Has he not read the articles of Paul Eidelberg and Yoram Ettinger broadcast here for the world to see? Despite protestations of Israel's Supreme Court of the Arab People (and not Jews), there is NO SUCH THING AS INTERNATIONAL LAW!!! The only thing that has ever mattered in world history is POWER. Machiavelli knew it. So did Lao Tsu, Muhammed, Pol Pot, Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Mao, Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin. Power can be used for good or evil. The defense of Israel and the Jewish People is the most righteous use of power in the course of human history. The Arabs had wanted a new state only as a stop-gap on the way to the elimination of Israel...." "One must live in dread of the proposals that Netanyahu will be presenting to the US Congress in days ahead." What I think I see developing before my eyes is the birth of a new Arab state on Israel's lands. Israel's Leftists and their collaborators -- which include Netanyahu -- will at long last be achieving their dream. Once upon a time they had dreamed of a Jewish state living in safety and security on their ancestral lands, but, this in the last decades, this had given way to their powerful and exciting dream of a new Arab state. SATIRE - PEACE AT LAST
by Steven Plaut Freeman Center For Strategic Studies April 28, 2011 It was in the year 2013. The Israelis at long last gave up their attempts to resist the pressures of the world. Their newly elected national unity government approved the plan. The Palestinians, led by a coalition of the PLO and the Hamas, had already earlier announced the creation of a Palestinian state. Israel’s Left had been holding weekly protests in support of Palestinian statehood. When the UN had officially and unanimously called for such a state, even the United States of Barack Obama voted in favor. The national unity government of Israel announced that Israel was willing to accept the unanimous UN proposal for peace, supported by every single country in the world. Israel would return to its pre-1967 borders, remove all Jewish settlements from the territories of the new state of Palestine, recognize Palestine, and grant Palestine all of East Jerusalem, that is, all of the city located east of a line running north-south through Zion Square, renamed Martyrs’ Square. FATEFUL DECISION COMING
by David Basch Freeman Center For Strategic Studies April 24, 2011 "The question is whether PM Netanyahu's next proposal will mark a new direction in negotiation -- one that walks Israel back from earlier surrender agreements that should be declared nul and void on grounds of the perfidious performance of the Arab enemy." It has been PM Netanyahu's unhappy lot that he has been the one called on to make fateful decisions for Israel and the Jewish people. Maybe that statment should be corrected that it is Israel and the Jewish people's unhappy lot that it is he that is called on to decide these issues for them. Reflecting on what has happened, he has not done well for them. One need only recall that in his first term as PM, elected to stand fast on behalf of Israel against the Oslo process that was delivering Israel into the hands of those that sought to destroy the nation, he failed to stop it in its tracks and even expanded it by contributing the early surrender of additional large portions of Hebron to the Arabs. A decade later, after running on another right wing program, he became the first Israeli leader to subscibe to a Palestinian State. Leading up to this, he was also for the surrender of Gaza, the very surrender that brought Israel's southern cities under Arab bombardment. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth... ...Plato
"The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see." ... Ayn Rand ====================== TWO ARTICLES: DEFENSE VS. OFFENSE DM EHUD BARAK VS. BERNARD J. SHAPIRO Barak has raised the idea of a separation between the PA and Israel. It is not a new idea and as far back as 1995 I explained why it won't work. Here is that article. Today in 2011 his big "idea" is missile shields. They won't work either. Anit-missiles systems are very expensive and the terrorists can keep producing thousands of cheap missiles to overwhelm them. SEPARATION & SECURITY FENCES The Primary Fallacy By Bernard J. Shapiro (1995) Freeman Center For Strategic Studies The Maccabean Online The idea of separation has much appeal to an Israeli population feeling threat0ened daily by hostile Arabs. The Israeli government recently advanced an elaborate plan to construct hi-tech fences and new military checkpoints between Israel and the Palestinian West Bank in an effort to reduce the risk of militant violence. Israeli security officials brought the plan before the Knesset a day after Islamic extremists opened fire on an Israeli bus near the West Bank town of Hebron, killing two Jewish settlers and wounding five. The separation plan involves building extensive fences, other barriers and restricting Palestinian access into Israel through eight to ten crossings points. The border would be heavily patrolled by Israeli soldiers and police. Cost estimates range from $300 million to $500 million. An economic report on the draft plan said the cost would be too high and separation would lead to political and economic instability in the PLO areas, perhaps intensifying the danger of attacks from opponents of the Israeli-PLO peace process. Analysts such as Dore Gold, Emanuel Winston and Ze'ev Schiff have discussed many of the reasons why it simply won't work. For another reason why it is the wrong approach to security, it is worth repeating a story I wrote, which appeared in an article entitled, DETERRENCE OR DHIMMIZATION (THE MACCABEAN, January 1995): Back in 1965, in a small meeting room in Tel Aviv, former Defense Minister Moshe Dayan gave a pep talk to a group of RAFI (Rishimat Poalai Israel) volunteers, myself included. At that time, RAFI, a breakaway faction of the Mapai Party, included such notables as former Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and former Defense Minister Shimon Peres. Peres and Dayan had been considered the "hawks" of Mapai and it was no accident that in the 1965 election they supported a strong defense and security policy. Continue reading "DEFENSE VS. By Bernard J. Shapiro Freeman Center For Strategic Studies www.freeman.org February 21, 2011 How Israel Should Respond to Recognition of PA The Israeli policy of expressing regret as country after country recognizes the terrorist PA as a legitimate country is foolish. [See article below:] Such a country, ripped from the heart of Israel is both an economic absurdity, but a serious and existential threat to Israel's survival. WHAT IS A PROPER RESPONSE FOR A SELF RESPECTING NATION: 1. Withdraw Israeli ambassador and expel that countries ambassador 2. Immediately renounce OSLO, re-occupy YESHA and launch a new military offensive to root out terrorists 3. And finally annex YESHA and make the whole recognition problem mute. HOW ISRAEL SHOULD RESPOND TO IRANIAN WARSHIPS OFF THE COAST 1. Very simple, sink them preemptively 2. No warnings, no threats, no words like "unfortunate, provocative" 3. Just sink them and let their ambassador to Israel complain to the FM and PM. Oh I forgot, they don't recognize Israel, so who cares. 4. If the UN takes up the issue then withdraw from the UN and expel all UN personel from Israeli territory.Who needs that anti-Semitic organization 5. If the US, EU, or Arab/Muslim Nations complain then respond by sending them a short not. It should say: This is the NEW ISRAEL. Wild and Crazy so you had better not MESS WITH US. It is a great slogan for Texas ("Don't Mess With Texas"), why not Israel. Watch our deterence level shoot up. In a rough neighborhood like the Middle East, it is always better to be feared than loved. ================================ Continue reading "MORE COMMENTS OF A FRUSTRATED ZIONIST" Sunday, February 20. 2011SHAPIRO COMMENTS ON ETTINGER -Israel – America's Unique Ally
SHAPIRO COMMENTS ON ETTINGER -Israel – America's Unique Ally
by Bernard J. Shapiro Greeman Center For Strategic Studies February 20, 2011 As always Yoram Ettinger writes a clear and well researched article. No one can improve on what he does. My complaint is more political and strategic. Most of us know about how important Israel is to America. That will never change the 100 years of hostility to Jews and Israel by the US State Department, CIA, NSA, Justice Department and especially the current White House. 1. Given all the facts enumerated below, why doesn't Ettinger NOT DEMAND that America treat Israel as a strategic ally and NOT "banana repuplic." 2. And more important, why have Israeli and Jewish leaders groveled before the US like the weak ghetto Jews of the past. Back in pre WWll days Ze'ev Jabotinsky understood the strategic needs of the Jewish People both in Europe but also in Israel. His ideas harkened back to the great Israelite warriors who conquered Eretz Yisrael (Israel) during biblical times. Leaders like Joshua, David, The Maccabees, Shinshon, and Bar Kochba. He was silenced by the organized Jewish leadership. After his death in 1940 was maliciously barred from burial in Israel until Menachem Begin was elected in the late 1970's. During, days still fresh enough for me to remember, new warriors emerged to fight for Israel. Though they had many flaws (we all do), people like David Ben Gurion, Menachem Begin, Avraham Stern, Ariel Sharon and Moshe Dayan and Yoni Netanayhu led the country to many victories on the battlefield. Others like Moshe Arens, Rabbi Meir Kahane z”l and Herb Zweibon z”l (AFSI) and Moton Klien (ZOA), Emanuel A. Winston fought their battles for Israel on the political front. Caroline Glick, Prof. Paul Eidelberg, Steven Plaut, Helen Freedman (AFSI), Nadia and Ruth Matar (Women in Green) have fought both on the ground and politically. Learning from reports that Israeli governments have been in communication with Arab leaders, who are reported as desiring peace -- now where have I heard that before? -- is not any report that I can be hopeful about. I certainly don't trust the Arabs and certainly not Israeli leaders who, time and again, are led on the basis of Arab promises to drop Israel's guard. After all, did not old Yassir promise the leftist negotiators and Rabin that he wanted peace? And what happened? On the basis of Yassir's encouraging words, Israel brought that terrorist and his whole terrorist Arab army back to Israel, set them up in control of enclaves and gave them all kinds of Israeli aid, so that they could strike against Israel, producing intifadas and dead and maimed Israelis galore. I went to my computer and was shocked to read the tribute below to Herb Zweibon z"l (of blessed memory) by David Wilder. Herb was a dear friend of mine and not just a perpetual inspiration. We first met in 1990 at an AFSI National meeting in New York. Though a long time Zionist, Herb presented me with a coherent serious Zionist ideology with out the wishy washy fuzziness of other Jewish Organizations. From that day forward, AFSI and I were in sync. I founded and AFSI chapter in Houston (1990) and then started the Freeman Center For Strategic Studies in 1993. Herb became a member of the Freeman Center's Board of Directors and I was on the Board of AFSI. We worked together for Eretz Yisrael. When upset or depressed at the foolish and dangerous events in the world and Israel, I would frequently call Herb. Herb always took the time to talk to me and keep me motivated. If we need money to keep operating, Herb always would send me a generous check. Jabotinsky and Shmuel Katz were his intellectual and ideological teachers, but Herb was mine.
