The year is 70 C.E. and a young Roman legionnaire stands on a hill overlooking Jerusalem. While he watches it burn, he says to his comrades in Latin, "Judea Capta Est" (Judea is conquered).Yet like the legendary phoenix, rising from the ashes of its own destruction, Israel burst onto the world's stage 2000 years later, with the cry of a lusty infant yearning to breathe free. Five Arab armies tried to destroy that new life before it could take hold. With blood and fire, including the sacrifice of one per cent of its population (6000 of its best young people), besieged Israel secured its independence.

Just nine short years earlier, European Jewry faced its most devastating experience, the Holocaust. In the areas under Nazi occupation, the Jewish death rate was 90%. Despite revolts in dozens of camps, and heroic resistance with the partisans of free Europe, the Jews were unorganized, unarmed and ultimately became victims. During both the Holocaust and Israel's War of Independence, the world and its leaders were indifferent, if not hostile, to the fate of the Jews.

INTRODUCTION

In 1934, Harry W. Freeman, my grandfather, was already lecturing about the dangers of Hitler and Nazism. Nobody listened. The Holocaust was not prevented. Today, in 2009 there are 1.9 billion Arab & Moslem people who plan a second Holocaust against the Jews of Israel and the world. The governments and people of Europe not only acquiesce but actively aid in this genocidal plan through diplomatic and material support. The American State Department encourages the Arabs by actively striving to weaken Israel’s strategic and military superiority. Their first stage is to use the so called “peace process” to weaken Israel and strip it of its strategic territories. They are being aided by the same hypocrites and accomplices in the West who failed to aid the Jews of Europe in their darkest hour. Unfortunately, even left-wing Israelis have fallen victims to the seductive lure of peace and have begun a policy of appeasement similar to that tried with Hitler. The results will be no different.

The Arab propaganda full of slanders and libels; the media bias against Israel replete with double standards and the rewriting of history are all working to the same end: the de-legitimation of Israel. Israel is the only country considered by many to be GUILTY OF ORIGINAL SIN by virtue of its very existence. This process of de-legitimation has as its goal creating a world climate in which the DESTRUCTION of Israel is acceptable. Many in the Jewish community are either apathetic or fail to recognize this threat. Fortunately the Jews have new allies in the Evangelical Christian Community and in the Hindu community that has suffered Moslem depredations for about1400 years.

Today I met an orphan of the 1929 massacre of Jews in Jerusalem because of a blood libel. Shmuel Tsefania survived the massacre under his dead mother's body. He survived the Friday mutilations and massacre in the Jewish neighborhood of Jerusalem called Nissan Bak, across from Meah Shearim, near the Damascus gate. When the Jews came to bury their dead on Friday, the bodies were un-identifiable. The burial was postponed until Saturday evening. The sound of a baby's cry came from below the dead. That baby is now 81. His tale is the tale of Jewish rights and reality that needs rectification for the dead and for the living. We heard his story and said kaddish in front of the mass grave at the Mount of Olives Cemetery.

From a loving established family, left was a Jewish orphan. Not only was he orphaned, but the neighborhood of Batei Nissan lost most of its Jews in 1929 and all of its Jews by the Jordanian invasion and occupation in 1948. The neighborhood was established by a printer from Tsefat. He also put up a shul, the tallest in the Old City which housed 58 shuls which the Jordanians destroyed. It was called Batei Eshel Avraham. The parking lot outside this neighborhood where we parked today was all Jewish houses that were homes to 200 families. Jews were killed. An orphan survived. The neighborhood was almost Judenrid because of the pogroms that killed about 133 Jews. The dead of Nissan Bak are buried in a mass grave in the Mount of Olives Cemetery. We visited the dead again 80 years later.

The word has gone forth from Jerusalem. Now there is no doubt, despite a multitude of denials. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (and now there is talk that Netanyahu might be interested in a deal.) has already agreed to surrender the whole Golan Heights to Syrian dictator Hafez Assad. It took months of couching, but finally Syrian dictator Hafez Assad has learned to say the word "peace." Does he mean it? The United State's State Department has announced that once peace is made with Syria, then 18 other Arab countries will make peace with Israel. The pressure to accept a withdrawal will be immense. Golan residents are beginning massive resistance, including hunger strikes and demonstrations. Labor MK Avigdor Kahalani is organizing a faction in the Knesset to resist withdrawal from the Golan. He has tabled a bill to raise the vote necessary for approval of territorial change from a simple majority (61) to 70 Knesset members.

The time has come to clear the smoke and mirrors. There is a significant Israeli dilemma in the negotiating framework with Syria. I call this dilemma: the "Mubarak gambit." After Egyptian dictator Anwar Sadat's death, his successor Hosni Mubarak discovered that Egypt could ignore its peace treaty obligations to Israel with impunity. Sadat had signed over 50 agreements and amendments to the Camp David Accords, which spelled out in great detail normalization of relations with Israel. These included trade, tourism, science, cultural and other attributes of peaceful relations. The late Menachem Begin, of blessed memory, fully believed that his sacrifice of Sinai, with its air bases and oil, was worth the inauguration of peaceful relations with the most important country in the Arab world.

A New Plan for Jerusalem's Old City

Jerusalem's Old City is the holiest part of Judaism's holiest city. What we now call the "Old City" is what the Bible means when it refers to Jerusalem. There should be little doubt that the new Obama/Clinton policy for Israel will include pressure on Israel to negotiate away Israel's full control of the Old City and other parts of Jerusalem. Benjamin Netanyahu now has the opportunity to, as he has so often put it in the past: "change the facts on the ground".

Netanyahu is projected to bring Likud electoral victory. But what new ideas is he advancing? Netanyahu should announce now, before the Knesset election, that the next Likud led government will relocate the Prime Minister's Office and the Prime Minister's official residence to Jerusalem's Old City and it will begin the process upon the first day he takes office.

Support for such a dynamic move would come from Jews the world over and other friends of Israel. It could also lead to more pressure being put on the Obama Administration to move America's Embassy. In a 1996 letter the late Senator Jesse Helms wrote to a Jerusalem based policy group that "I look forward to working with you … to encourage all nations to move their embassies to Jerusalem, and to recognize that Holy City as Israel's eternal capital."

TRUTH ABOUT THE HOUSE OF PEACE (HEBRON) THE LEFT DESTROYS

A few years ago our Moslem Arab cousins/peace partners in the dark attacked worshippers returning Saturday night/motsay Shabbat from prayers at the Cave of the Patriarchs. Funds had been allocated to to develop the connecting path with among other things better lighting, etc, but the intention hadn't been implimented.

After the devastating attack with its murder & maiming of Jews including the highest ranking soldier Brigade commander, Colonel Dror Weinberg- may G-d avenge his and their blood, the settlers wanted to put up houses along the path in an empty field to better provide security in the area. The Jews set up the beginnings of a "maachaz" tents as a prelude to building. The government protested promising the protection of its citizens by putting up a guarded watchtower. After shiva, the 7 days of morning, for all intensive purposes, the tower, while remaining is usually vacant - all show- but no substance.

Through incitement and provocation, the present Government of Israel has deliberately incited part of her population to revolt. PART ONE: EARLY BIO

I was always a Jew, but something happened to me in 1959 that turned me into a Zionist. Don’t laugh, but I took a course in modern Jewish history and two of the reading assignments were: EXODUS by Leon Uris and THE COURSE OF MODERN JEWISH HISTORY by Howard M. Sacher. Coming from a Reform Jewish background in a state known more for its Texas pride than Jewish pride, I have come a long way. It has been an exciting journey, but now I am sad and frustrated.

I went to Israel for the first time with the Israel Summer Institute in 1960, and of course, fell in love with Eretz Yisrael. I returned to complete my studies at the University of California at Berkeley. My love for Israel seemed to be growing daily and expressed itself in multiple pro-Israel activities on the campus. I turned Hillel into and instrument of Zionist influence on the campus. The Hillel rabbi (like most of them was not a true Zionist) and sought to rain me in. He failed as I formed the Student Zionist Organization and increased my activities. We brought a steady stream of Israeli speakers to the campus and introduced African-Israeli-Zionist Night. Running two years in a row, it consisted of African, Jewish, Israel food, culture, dancing, literature. I worked as a liaison for the Israel Consul in San Francisco. He provided us and the Africans with some funding and support.

In retrospect these were great years, and perhaps impossible to recreate in the conditions today on U.S. Campuses. Even then the 5000 Arabs on the Berkeley Campus tried to stop us by enlisting the services of Gamel Abdul Nasser (dictator of Egypt) to persuade the African to boycott us. He failed as our influence was paramount.

As I survey the fragile planet we call home, my mind makes note of the chaos, blood, and tears. The cries of a million lost souls shatter the night in a million corners of the earth. The sensitive, compassionate among them try to feed the hungry, heal the sick, clothe the naked. One by one their energies dissipate. They try to hold back the tide with a teaspoon and then see the impossibility of the task. The Jewish people are but a cosmic speck in this universe. To many Jews who feel deeply about their own people, that speck becomes the whole world. Other Jews are irrevocably tied to non-Jewish pursuits.

May we as a people open our eyes and begin to see the world as it really is. Without becoming depressed and morose, we must realize that there are powerful forces in the world that wish us ill. May we mobilize our strength to fight our enemies until they are defeated. May we not succumb to false prophets of peace. We all want peace. We pray for peace in our Sabbath services every Friday night. After thousands of years, being victims of persecution, expulsion, extermination, and discrimination, it is natural that we yearn for peace with every ounce of our bodies and souls. It is because our hunger for peace is so strong that we must be doubly cautious not to fall for a pseudo-peace. Today none of us believe Chamberlain really negotiated "peace in our time" with Hitler. Why did some Jews believe that Peres and Rabin really negotiated "peace" with Arafat, one of today's Hitlers?

THE FREEMAN CENTER EXPOSED - THE GOOD AND THE BAD (?)

The Freeman Center has been around for so long (since 1992) most people take it for granted. Readers depend on the Freemanlist daily news and commentary. We have always had a unique philosophy of being generous to other Zionist organizations and new authors. While most Jewish websites distribute only their own material, we send you a mixture of excellent material from many sources. Sort of a one stop shop for serious Zionists.

At the time we launched our website, there were less than 10 strong Zionist sites on the Internet. Today there are 10,000 Jewish sites, many of them Zionist. The new ones came up following our lead and copying our model. They had much more money and jazzier graphics. We have always concentrated on being primarily a text site for people wanting in depth reports and commentary on the news. In the USA, academics, the military, the government and many politicians read our reports. I don't claim to have convinced anybody of anything. We provided the information for sound judgments. Some understood it and some didn't.

A TIME FOR PEACE, AND A TIME FOR WAR

We find all the expressions of horror a recent Rabbi's ruling concerning a soldier's obligation to avoid abandoning army bases and settlements to terrorists, to be hypocritical, self-serving, and unfortunate. The Israeli government is in rebellion against everything that Israel, Zionism, and Judaism are all about. They are the ones causing the rift in the body politic and they will be totally responsible for any resulting violence. We must pray that this does not happen.

When will the Nationalist Camp realize that we are "at war already" with the PLO supporting tyranny that rules Israel? At what point will Israelis realize that the CIVIL WAR they fear, IS ALREADY TAKING PLACE AND THEY ARE LOSING? Why don't members of the Nationalist Camp understand that FORCE is being used by only ONE side and that is the government.
The monopoly on power must be broken or there is no hope.

Under the Nazis, the Jews of Warsaw numbered over 500,000. They were depleted with regular deportations aided by Judenrats (Jewish leaders). The Revolt in Warsaw began when the Jewish population was down to 50,000 (or 90% murdered). At what point is it OK to rebel? When is civil disobedience OK? When is civil war a better course than suicide? All throughout history there have been rebels and loyalists. History is usually written by the victors but truly there is seldom a universally accepted moral standard as to what is a proper rebellion and what is not. We can say with absolute certainty, however, that the Jewish return to Zion and our struggle today for Eretz Yisrael are more righteous than any other struggle for national liberation in the history of the world.

[Freeman Center Note: Every year I send out this article at Chanukah with some revisions. It is frustrating, since nothing on the ground really changes in Israel. Some important leaders in Israel are beginning to wake up. I am very impressed with Caroline Glick and others who are calling for a real revolt against the government of self destruction. Many, like the Matars and the Winstons, have been figting from the beginning. Paul Eidelberg has laid the foundation for a true Jewish state.

I remember in the early days of Oslo, when Rabin told us "to spin like propellers." It seem that nothing would work. It was in those days that I developed the somewhat earthy philosophy that the "Leftist traitors could kick us in the b**ls but they could not stop us from screaming. I have been screaming for a long time. When will the REVOLT come? Dan Nimrod, who was one of the founding members of the Freeman Center once told me that"dreke doesn't explode." And my wonderful grandfather, Harry W. Freeman, despite his dedication to equal rights and social justice, explained to me that politically the "masses are asses."

So what are we left with. We must not despair. We must rise up and seize what rightfully belongs to the Jewish People. The Land of Israel and its Holy Sites are not the property of a Left wing oligarchy, the Vatican, the EU, the US or pagans. It belongs to us "in perpetuity." From my mouth to G-d's ear...Bernard]

ISRAEL'S SACRED PLACES
Why The Arab Thrust To Seize Control of Them

When the late Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres signed the Oslo Accords on the White House lawn (September 1993), they initiated a process whereby Israel would lose control of its Sacred Places and its Holy Land. Even before Oslo, Moshe Dayan had surrendered the most sacred of Jewish Holy Places, the Temple Mount, to the Arabs. There is much more involved here than politics as ususal. I believe that there is something terrible dangerous about the removal of the Jews from their Sacred Places.

All over the world, from Stonehenge in England to the great temples of India, one finds Holy Places with great mystical power for the people who inhabit those lands. Some shrines of the East draw believers from across the globe. The power of these places can not be explained scientifically. One only needs to step onto Mount Abu in India to feel the presence of great mystical forces. And then there is Banares, the Hindu's Holy City of Light casting a warm glow over the sacred Ganges river.

A Glorious Vision: Misconceptions and the Middle East

After Israel uprooted the Jewish inhabitants of Gaza and turned their land over to the Palestinian Arabs in order to help bring about President Bush’s vision a song was written by Palestinian Arabs expressing another “glorious” vision.

“The blood-dimmed tide is loosed,” says the poet Yeats, “and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned.” We humans already coexist uneasily in a rapidly disintegrating world. Soon there may be no safety in arms, no help from political authority, no answers from science. New wars may rage until every flower of culture is trampled, and till all things human are leveled in a vast chaos. The dark ages to come would cover an entire world in a single pall. There would be neither escape nor sanctuary.

Yet, in an apparent paradox, even chaos has a certain order. There is, even in chaos, a kind of axiomatic geometry, and the changing geometry of chaos should now have deeply special meanings for Israel. For Israel, for the prime inheritor of Genesis, there are especially vital lessons to be learned from this expanding global order/disorder. In a strange and unrecognized symmetry, chaos may reveal both sense and form. How shall this meaningful sense and form now be deciphered and understood by leaders of the imperiled Jewish State?

Sun Tzu should be of interest to the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, in view of the Arab War against Israel which erupted in September 2000. Since then more than 1,600 Jews have been murdered and many thousands more have been wounded and maimed by Arab warriors.

IDF Intel Chief Says Withdrawal Increased Existential Threats

IDF Intelligence Chief Maj.-Gen. Amos Yadlin recently declared that Israel's unilateral withdrawal from Gaza has increased the number of strategic threats to Israel's existence.

Yadlin is only the latest important military and defense figure to speak about Israel's deteriorating strategic environment. Yadlin was a general in the Israeli Air Force and currently heads Military Intelligence. Speaking at Haifa University’s National Strategic Center on June 20th, Yadlin gave several factors that have contributed to Israel's deteriorating position in the eyes of the world.

The main factor, he said, was Hamas winning the elections and convincing the Palestinian people that their terrorist actions against Israel have been successful; that they forced Israel into making concessions (like the unilateral withdrawal from Gush Katif). Yadlin said that Hizbullah's Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah "was the first to claim by military force alone he would make Israel retreat from south Lebanon, with no diplomatic compromise. This trend was positively reinforced by Israel's Disengagement from the Gaza Strip."

If we want to save the settlement enterprise in Judea and Samaria, and thereby the very existence of the State of Israel, we apparently will have to begin with a considerable portion of our national-religious public receiving psychiatric care so that he can cure us of a mental disease that is deeply entrenched within us. As long as we suffer from this malady, we will not be able to act properly. I am referring to the fact that most of our public apparently does not regard the plans for the deportation of Jews, the destruction of settlements, and the handing over of parts of the homeland to the Arab enemy as a CRIME . And once this is not seen as a CRIME, then the public does not go out of its way to stop it. I received proof of this, once again, when I read through the responses to a report on Arutz7 Internet about Rabbi Lior's statement that "a community must vomit out a Kadima Member of Knesset."

Kick More Jews Out, No Referendum In Israel

Turning reality on its head, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on presenting
his new government to the Israeli Knesset recently, stated that the Jews
of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) endangered the State of Israel.
"The continuance of scattered Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria
endanger us," said Olmert.

Not Hamas' genocidal suicide bombings mind you, nor Iran's threat to
vaporize Israel with its nukes.

Not the rapidly secularizing Israeli masses for whom being Jewish is
loosing all meaning; nor it's defeatist corollary, reflected so
eloquently by Olmert himself, speaking to the Israel Policy Forum in New York,
in June 2005, "We are tired of fighting. We are tired of being
courageous. We are tired of winning. We are tired of defeating our enemies."

From Olmert's point of view the disengagement was a great success. There is not a single Jew left in Gaza! Even dead Jews had to be removed from their graves and buried elsewhere, to satisfy the Arab enemy.

WILL A RETREAT FROM GEOGRAPHY SECURE ISRAEL's DEMOGRAPHY?

OBSERVATION

The willingness of Israel's Center and Right to consider a retreat from Geography (Gaza, Judea & Samaria), in order to secure Demography (Jewish majority), has been based on the fatalistic assumption that the Jewish population is destined to become a minority between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean.

FAILURE OF PAST DEMOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS

Demographic fatalism was employed by opponents of Jewish leaders, such as Theodore Herzl, David Ben Gurion and Levi Eshkol. For instance, in 1900 Herzl was urged by a leading Jewish historian-demographer, Shimon Doubnov, to refrain from the Zionist voyage, since by the year 2000 "Jews will be a minority of 500,000 west of the Jordan River side by side with millions of Arabs." However, by 2000 the Jewish population west of the Jordan River reached some 5 million! In 1948 Prime Minister Ben Gurion was lobbied by the leading Israeli statistician-demographer, Prof. Roberto Bacchi, to postpone declaration of independence, because by 1967 Jews would supposedly become a minority within the 1947 Lines.

Proponents of withdrawal both before Gaza and now, argue that it will save money. They also argued that Israel will be more secure, but that’s another story. Olmert has gone so far as to say that Kadima will no longer spend money on the settlements east of the fence. In so doing he is reinforcing the message that the settlements and or the occupation are a financial burden, a waste of money that could be better spent on Israelis rather then settlers. Fair enough, but where is the proof? What are the facts?

Sharon’s Planned Death

The policies of Ehud Olmert’s transitional government reveal a lot about his lack of any sense of morality. Let’s take a quick glance at his activities since taking office following the incapacitation of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. He has funded Hamas, the new terrorist rulers of the Palestinian Authority. Of course, the old Fatah terrorist government of Mohammad Abbas and Yasir Arafat also got funding. But this doesn’t make it right.

Olmert has launched a "no holds barred" attack on patriotic Zionists citizens of Israel. They rightfully live on Israeli lands that he plans to give to terrorists. And he has not attempted to enforce "the law" on some 20,000+ illegal Arab buildings on Israeli land. Despite all this he sent a large force of 4000 military and police to destroy nine Jewish homes in Amona. This mighty contingent was instructed to crack skulls, molest Jewish girls and break the arms and legs of peacefully protesting Jews. Most of the protesters were under the age of 21. The attack forces mounted huge German horses and set out to crush all dissent in the Jewish state with steel batons.

On Thursday, for the second time this week, a group of Palestinian terrorists took over the European Union's offices in Gaza. Armed with rifles, the terrorists demanded an official apology from the Danish government for caricatures of Muhammad published in a Danish newspaper last September. At the same time as the EU offices were commandeered, another group of terrorists in Gaza issued an ultimatum: Either Denmark and the EU issue formal apologies for the publication of the cartoons by nightfall, or the terrorists will begin kidnapping Europeans in Gaza.

with horses and swinging batons, hurting whoever is in their way. There
are reports of a several hundred civilians injured including three
Knesset members, Effie Eitam (knocked unconscious), Aryeh Eldad (broken arm), and Rabbi Binyamin Elon. Nothing has been seen like this in the free world since the Police Riots during the Chicago Democratic Convention in 1968.

Netanyahu To Call For Moving Fence

Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu will call for shifting the security fence eastward and initiating economic projects to help the Palestinians in his speech on Sunday night at the Herzliya Conference, sources close to Netanyahu said. Netanyahu will stress the need to ensure that Israel will have secure and defensible borders. To accomplish this, he will recommend restoring the fence to borders recommended by security officials before Supreme Court decisions changed its course.
The borders Netanyahu will outline will include the Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights, the Judean desert, an undivided Jerusalem, settlement blocs in Judea and Samaria, and the hilltops overlooking Ben-Gurion Airport, the Gush Dan region and Road 443.

'Cool' anti-Semitism

The decision to award the Palestinian film Paradise Now the Golden Globes Award for best foreign film tells us that Palestinian terror against Israelis has become so acceptable that it is now Hollywood kitsch. Some ‘coups’ are over in days, even hours, while others take years. The plotters of any ‘coup d’etat’ seek to overthrow their current government in either a bloody coup or a bloodless coup - depending on their motives and their means. Israel has been suffering a ‘rolling coup d’etat’ for years since the 1993 Oslo Accords and no one seems to notice or care. The roll-out of this ‘coup’ started out merely as an arrangement between the political leaders of the Left, using the (IDF) Israel Defense Force as the incubator with the graduates, the high ranking officers who, in retirement, were to become leading contenders for political office. Outstanding candidates were Moshe Dayan, Ezer Weizman, Yitzhak Rabin, Ehud Barak, Amram Mitzna, and many, many others - whom, you may notice, were all representatives of the Leftist ideology.
