ISRAEL’S NUCLEAR DETERRENT #1: Israel’s Nuclear Policy Fiasco after Its Hamas Contretemps forwarded with comments by Emanuel A. Winston After you read the following perhaps HaShem’s mandate that "Israel is a Nation who must dwell alone" will be understood. Israel has been sold out for a cheap trick to bring Iran to the Security Council where nothing will happen. Please watch for a follow-on article, entitled "THE DE-NUCLEARIZATION OF ISRAEL". Comments by Emanuel Winston DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis February 4, 2006, 11:34 PM DEBKAfile - Israel’s Nuclear Policy Fiasco after Its Hamas Contretemps Washington and the European Union are congratulating themselves on getting 27 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s 35 members to refer the Iranian nuclear program to the UN Security Council. This is still a long way from sanctions. But the diplomatic achievement was achieved at a price, one that was paid for by the collapse of a fundamental Israeli policy platform just two weeks after the interim Olmert government was rocked back by the Islamic Hamas terror group’s attainment of enough parliamentary seats to form the next Palestinian government. Saturday, Feb. 4, Jerusalem stood back and watched the United States buckle under European pressure and accept Egypt’s demand to incorporate the following phrase in the resolution on Iran:
The resolution recognized "that a solution to the Iranian issue would contribute to global non-proliferation efforts and… the objective of a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, including their means of delivery." This linkage between Iran’s violations of its commitments under international treaty and the Israeli case has long been demanded by the Arab states and opposed by Washington. Its acceptance now opens the way for the integration of the same linkage in the Security Council debate on Iran. It provides a pretext for a whole new set of maneuvers and dilatory tactics by Tehran. For Israel, there are several serious ramifications: 1. The last batch of prime ministers, the late Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak, Binyamin Netanyahu, Ariel Sharon and now Ehud Olmert, opted to leave the nuclear issue in the hands of the United States and the United Nations. None of them foresaw the day when the Israeli case would be dredged up as a stratagem to ease the passage of the Iranian nuclear crisis to the UN Security Council. 2. While the Vienna decision looks like a victory for Western diplomacy, Iran’s leaders have lost no time in seizing on it as a license to go full throttle ahead with their illicit uranium enrichment, free of UN spot inspections. Furthermore, they have been given added leverage: before halting their own program, they can demand that the entire Middle East be disarmed - first and foremost Israel. 3. The reference to weapons of mass destruction and means of delivery would also require Israel to give up its long-range missiles. 4. The Arab states will achieve their old ambition of forcing the Security Council to address Israel’s nuclear program. 5. The American surrender to the Arab demand was carried through by telephone between US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and Egyptian foreign minister Aboul Gheit. Jerusalem was not brought into the picture and was taken completely unawares. This is an indicator of how Washington regards interim prime minister Ehud Olmert. 6. The Bush administration’s capitulation to Arab and European demands is part of the collapse of the larger US strategy in the Middle East ever since Hamas rose to victory two weeks ago. Washington’s changed attitude shows up in one issue after another, the Palestinians, Lebanon, Syria and now Iran. Olmert and his foreign minister Tzipi Livni say they are pleased to see international opinion lining up behind their stipulations from Hamas, but this apparent alignment is no more than diplomatic claptrap. Europe has not halted its aid program for the Palestinian Authority claiming that the Hamas-led government is not yet in place. The Olmert government is about to follow suit. Despite all the high-flown sentiments about pre-conditions to force Hamas to disarm and recognize Israel, Mahmoud Abbas has started negotiations with the fanatical Islamic leaders on forming a new government, while they declare outright they have no intention of abandoning their objective of destroying Israel. On all these fronts, Israel’s fundamental interests are fast eroding under inimical initiatives, while its government maintains a posture of complacent passivity. Copyright 2000-2006 DEBKAfile. Winston In the recent meeting of the United Nations IAEA: International Atomic Energy Agency, to determine what to do about the Rogue nation of Iran and its efforts to build Nuclear Weapons, the IAEA - with President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s concurrence decided to add Israel to the list. This was proposed by Egypt in direct consultation with Secretary Rice. This was not the first time the Arabist State Department and Egypt conspired to de-nuclearize Israel. As I progress in this article, think about Israel without a nuclear deterrence, centered among the nations of Egypt, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia - each of which I will get back to shortly. The U.N.’s IAEA concluded with alternate language provided by the U.S. which changes the specific language to a general statement of "having the region free of WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction)" including NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical). Take that to mean that the Bush Administration has agreed to try stripping Israel of her Nuclear Deterrence and Long Range Missiles. While still including Israel’s non-stated nuclear capability, it now included Chemical weapons held by Syria. All of this is supposed to be a fair exchange for Israel’s security. Let us go back to the October 30,1991 Madrid Conference convened by U.S. President George H.W. Bush and his Secretary of State James Baker - together with the Soviet Union, who invited Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and the Palestinians. This was a Conference that turned into an ambush. Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir was sand-bagged by the participants, particularly by the U.S. State Department under James Baker’s control and represented by what has become known as his "Jew-Boys": Dennis Ross, Aaron Miller, Daniel Kurtzer. While they denied influencing the Conference, it was well-reported that they bounced from hotel room to hotel room manipulating the participants. (Never forget Baker’s Jew-Boys reflecting Baker’s policy.) At the time, I made the prediction in print that somewhere in the proceedings an Arab nation probably Egypt, (counseled by Baker’s Jew-Boys) would pop up and call for Israel to stand down her nuclear deterrence. I was not surprised that near the end of the Conference, Egypt did make such a proposal. I was reasonably certain that, at the behest of James Baker III, his Jew-Boys would have suggested to Egypt that they propose that Israel be stripped of her nuclear deterrence. If Israel were to be eventually defeated, they could not have a retaliatory capacity of Nuclear Weapons. Keep in mind that Baker and the State Department were pro-Arab ‘vis a vis’ Oil and anti-Israel - with a visceral layer of anti-Semitism. No need to go into the history of the State Department and its bedrock anti-Semitism from its earliest days to the present. No need to explain James Baker’s feelings about Jews, is there? Remember, "F... the Jews; they didn’t vote for us anyway." In those early years, America had lost Iran to the Ayatollah Khomeini, thanks to the efforts of Jimmy Carter. During that Muslim Revolution, America also lost all the advanced American weapons’ systems in Iran’s inventory including the Phoenix missile system, the F-14 Tomcat - all of which ended up in the hands of the Soviets. They made good use of it by incorporating U.S. technology into the Soviet missile systems and aircraft. After Carter lost Iran, who then was supposed to be America’s Policeman to watch over the Gulf oil states, the U.S. needed another surrogate ‘cop on the block’. So people like Casper Weinberger, then VP George Herbert Walker Bush, James Baker, Admiral Bobby Ray Inman - among others, picked Egypt. Weinberger, as Defense Secretary, created a complete factory in Egypt to manufacture America’s best and newest Main Battle Tank, the M1A1 Abrams. The only problem was, he did it illegally, without authorization of Congress. Later her had to go to Congress for retroactive funding. He should have been summarily fired but, he had conspirator friends in high place. Egypt was to be our replacement for Iran as our American defense in the Middle East. The philosophy of State was that should Iraq, Iran, Syria decide to invade Saudi Arabia and take the oil fields that Egypt, representing U.S. interests would come to the rescue. Naturally, they ignored the growing influence of Islam through the Muslim Brotherhood. So America has so far dumped more than $60 Billion of American tax-payers’ money in free aid - mostly in the form of our best weapons’ systems. Egypt became the military colossus in the Middle East. But, Islamic influence continued to grow exponentially in Egypt. Translate that to mean that when an aging President Hosni Mubarak dies or is assassinated, the Muslim Brotherhood will own that immense military force. Like Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood hates America, Israel and the Eurpeans. Clearly, Egypt has a great interest in seeing Israel deprived of her Nuclear Deterrence. As I told you earlier, keep in mind the hostile nations who surround the Jewish State of Israel. Egypt’s self-serving interest as a "non-friend" of Israel is to have Israel stripped of her Nuclear Deterrence and relying only on conventional weapons to hold off collective attacks by the Arabs. In the North, there is always the hostile spoiler, Syria, who is known to have what may be the largest stockpile of Chemically-tipped missiles in the region. Of course, Syria has special friends in Washington - which is why Syria is never touched. While Iraq is temporarily in the throes of democratization - or so it is hoped - it looks like the Shi’ites will dominate Iraq after the ongoing Civil War. Iran, of course, is similarly dominated by Shi’ites. Their new President Ahmadinejad was allegedly one of the Iranians who captured the American Embassy. His vile, outspoken words: "We’ll wipe Israel off the map!"...speaks for his character and intentions. Despite denials of the U.S. pundits, there seems little doubt that eventually there will be a confluence of interests between Iraq and Iran. Iran now in the news everyday regarding its efforts to become a nuclear military power. Presently, the President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs are on a long term course of becoming the dominant power in the Middle East region. Supporting that is their wish as nuclear theocrats to bring the world under the domination of Islam and its strict Shari’a laws. Combining radical religion with nuclear weapons is a plan for Biblical Armageddon. They do not fear retaliation, given their belief that, dying for Islam and Allah brings them to a warriors’ Paradise. Some pacifists in the West will say: "Oh, C ‘mon, you don’t really think they believed all that crap!" Yes, they do! When the friends and enemies of Israel and the Jews say that a nuclear-free Middle East will bring peace to Israel, you know what they mean. They think a vulnerable Israel without a Nuclear Deterrence, will be quickly over-run by the armies of the Muslim Arab countries and thus bring the wild nations of Islam back to a non-hostile peaceful existence. That business will take place in peace; that oil will flow and it will be worth the sacrifice of the tiny Jewish State of Israel. Naturally, before all those dreams are fulfilled, one would need to persuade the Jews to give up her Nuclear Deterrence. That is possible under the mis-placed guidance of Ehud Olmert, Shimon Peres and all the Leftists who brought us Oslo 1, Oslo 2, Cairo, Wye, the self-inflicted wound of Gaza’s abandonment, and now the egregious actions of a Jewish Army and Police removing Jews from their homes in Judea and Samaria, the Jordan Valley and the Golan Heights with the surrender of Jerusalem to be the capital of the Muslim Palestinians. In brief, Israel without her Nuclear Deterrence would be an irresistible target for Muslim invasion. The U.S. knows this and IF it were up to the U.S. State Department, they would offer pledges to defend Israel should she come under attack by any hostile state or group of hostile states. I am certain that they would arrive, along with the Europeans to rescue a handful of survivors, bury the dead and build monuments and museums - unless, of course, the area was rendered radio-active. The day that Ehud Olmert and the Left decide to scrap Israel’s Nuclear Deterrence for a scrap of paper that is the day for the Israeli military to tuck away the government on the Isle of Elba that Napoleon was exiled to. Then they must get on with the business of defending the nation. ========== Emanuel A. As Jews, we are well aware that the Torah clearly delineates the concepts of good and evil, of right and wrong, of mitzvah and aveira (sin). Tragically, when evil rears it's ugly head, we as a people are often paralyzed when it comes to condemning it. Either we fear the repercussions and consequences of our bold actions or we fear what the opinion of the world will be of us if we speak out against it.
The Torah enjoins us to condemn evil, and to pursue justice and righteousness. To remain silent is a desecration of the name of G-d. For one who fears only G-d, will not fear the vacillating will of human nature and will strive to fulfill G-d's commands.
The latest personification of evil and Jew hatred that has captured the headlines comes from Teheran. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the despotic and maniacal Iranian leader has advocated the total annihilation of the State of Israel and all of it's Jewish inhabitants. Ahmadinejad also states that if any country objects to his proposal, that he would invite them to offer sanctuary to the Jews in their own countries. His vitrolic rhetoric also includes his denial of the veracity of the Holocaust, all the while promulgating hatred of the Jews. There is no doubt that his vituperative has been embraced by many willing listeners.
What is most terrifying is that Ahmadinejad is stockpiling stores of uranium with the specific goal of building an atomic bomb. The Iranians have maintained they will never give up their right under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty to enrich uranium and produce nuclear fuel, but the IAEA and most of its members want Tehran to maintain the freeze because of growing fears it will misuse enrichment to make weapons.
For any human being to take this lightly is to deny reality, but for the Jewish people, the stakes are always higher since Israel is in Iran's back yard.
And yet, as we sit and listen to such hatred and know that the forces of evil are in high gear, we hear of no condemnations of such evil from any county in the world. The silence is deafening and truly frightening. The USA does not condemn Iran, the European Union keeps it's collective mouth closed. Why isn't the world condemning such Jew hatred, why isn't the world protesting at the gates of the Iranian consulates in it's respective countries? Why are we afraid to speak out boldy and courageously against such rabid and vile hatred?
More importantly, why isn't Abe Foxman of the ADL and the entire alphabet soup of Jewish organizations based in the USA and worldwide rushing to condemn this Iranian madman? Why aren't Jewish leaders telling the world that this Iranian tyrant is desecrating the name of G-d and does not speak in the name of Islam or G-d?
They remain silent because they fear man and what the ramifications of their words and actions will be. They do not place their trust in the Almighty G-d of Israel. After all, they are too busy condemning Pat Robertson because he stated the G-d was punishing Arik Sharon (who suffered a major stroke) because he was dividing the Land of Israel and giving G-d given land to the Arab enemy. Pat Robertson has studied the Bible. Unfortunately, Jewish leaders have not.
According to an Assoicated Press report of January 5, 2006 it states as follows:
``God considers this land to be his,'' Robertson said on his TV program ``The 700 Club.'' ``You read the Bible and he says `This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, `No, this is mine.'''
In Robertson's broadcast from his Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, the evangelist said he had personally prayed about a year ago with Sharon, whom he called ``a very tender-hearted man and a good friend.'' He said he was sad to see Sharon in this condition.
He also said, however, that in the Bible, the prophet Joel ``makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who 'divide my land.'''
Sharon ``was dividing God's land and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU (European Union), the United Nations, or the United States of America,'' Robertson said."
There is no question that we do not agree with the divisive and suicidal policies of the Sharon government. We still weep over the evacuation of 9000 Jews from their homes in Gush Katif. We recoil in horror, when we hear about the atrocious way the government of Israel has treated these people since their forced evacuation. We read of their homeless and poverty and it breaks our hearts. We wring our hands in agony and anguish when we remember the burning of Jewish synagogues in Gush Katif. We tremble when we hear of daily mortar attacks on Jewish settlements coming in from Gaza. We have nightmares about this "Roadmap to Peace" leading to our national "Roadmap to Death". We can attribute these national calamities to the policies of Sharon.
Having said all that, we do not know why Mr. Sharon suffered a major stroke. We do not know if it was Divine punishment. We all pray for his recovery. However, we pray for much more than that. We pray that Mr. Sharon recovers so that he can do Teshuva (repentance) for his misdeeds. We pray that his Kadima party, which is slated to garner a majority of seats in the next Knesset election, disavow it's policies of relinquishing G-d given land to the Arab enemy. We pray that Sharon and his Kadima party reverse it's policies of forced secularization of the State of Israel. We pray that Sharon and his comrades recognize the
G-d of Israel and have the courage to divorce themselves from corruption and endless scandal.
Let us remember what we say every morning in our daily prayers, "And you who cling to Hashem your G-d, you are alive, all of you today. For your salvation do I yearn, Hashem."
May Mr. Sharon have these words in his heart and may the G-d of Israel heal him speedily so that he may return to his heritage..
