The IDF: An Uncomfortable Analysis
by Moshe Feiglin
Arutz Sheva - February 26, 2006
The IDF is part of our culture and national ethos. But the time has come to examine its objective status, the role that it is playing today in the State of Israel and the Gordian knot between it and the belief-based public. Our future depends on our ability to honestly assess our situation. Incorrect analysis will turn the naive, belief based public into the major tool for the destruction of Israel.
What is the Current Strategic Threat to Israel?

The Rise of Hamas and Decline of Israeli Determination
By: Steven Plaut
THE JEWISH PRESS - February 22, 2006
In the biblical saga of the exodus from Egypt, there is a great military mystery. We are told that when the Israelites left Goshen in Egypt, they had 600,000 men of fighting age in their ranks, and – at least according to one reading of the text – they were well armed (hamushim). That being the case, why did they behave in such a cowardly manner, shuddering as Pharaoh's army approached?
True, comments the great sage Ibn Ezra, the Egyptians had 600 chariots, but what are those when up against 600,000 fighting men? The medieval French rabbi Chezkuni makes the same point.

There Is An Alternative!
(To Another Unilateral Withdrawal)
by Robert Barnes
Article Summary:
It has become evident to the Israeli public that there is not, and will not be, a partner for peace. Thus, the question has arisen what to do with the Arab population of Judea, Samaria (aka the West Bank) and eastern Jerusalem. Reconquering and annexation have been ruled out for demographic reasons. The primary solution being proposed, even though it is apparently opposed by a significant majority of Israelis, is a! nother unilateral withdrawal. Various plans for the transfer of the Arab population have been rejected because they would fail due to lack of willingness of any third country to negotiate a population transfer treaty with Israel and accept the Palestinian Arabs, and lack of support for forced transfer among the Israeli Jewish population.

TIME TO COME CLEAN ON THE BOMB
by Avner Cohen Ha’aretz - February 7, 2006
Forwarded with comments by Emanuel A. Winston,
Middle East Analyst & Commentator
The following cogent explanation for Israel to have a Nuclear Deterrence is measured and reasonable. However, there is another side to this problem which should be aired to both the public and the American Congress. Israel has from the onset (1947-48) had dedicated enemies who simply didn’t want Israel to come into existence as a homeland for the Jews. The Arabs made it plain that they would occupy and destroy the Jewish State. They made every attempt to do so but, were unsuccessful.

Arab Lies, Gullible Jews, Passionate Anti-Semites
by Jack Berger
The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism."—Zahir Muhsein, PLO executive committee member, in an interview with the Dutch newspaper "Trouw," March 31, 1977.

EDWARD N. LUTTWAK: Attack On Iran Workable - Would Remove Nuclear Threat For Years
The Wall Street Journal - February 8, 2006
Many commentators argue that a pre-emptive air attack against Iran's nuclear
installations is unfeasible. It would not be swift or surgical, they say,
because it would require thousands of strike and defense-suppression
sorties. And it is likely to fail even then because some facilities might be
too well hidden or too strongly protected. There may well be other,
perfectly valid reasons to oppose an attack on Iran's nuclear sites. But
let's not pretend that such an attack has no chance of success. In fact, the
odds are rather good.

THE HOLOCAUST AND ZIONCIDE
Anne Bayefsky
Feb. 3, 2006
http://www.eyeontheun.org/editor.asp?p=181&b=1
On January 27, 2006, the United Nations General Assembly was filled with more than a thousand Jews who were there to mark the UN's first annual "International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust." Only a month earlier, the same hall had been filled with UN member states repeatedly demonizing the Jewish state. What is going on?
One answer would run something like this: the Secretary-General bought himself and his organization some good will at very little cost; Israel's foreign ministry brought home a deliverable product in contrast to the empty hands most other days of the year; the naïve and neglected victims of anti-semitism enjoyed warm feelings about being appreciated and recognized on a global scale.

Peace Criminals
by Jack Berger
After the Second World War, individuals were put on trial for complicity in the murder of people who were not enemy combatants but rather civilians caught in the crosshairs of the conflict. Armies fighting armies was considered a legitimate act of war, but the murder (targeting) of non-combatants (civilians) has always been viewed as an abhorrent crime. Failure to confront these intentional acts of violence, either by overlooking them or rationalizing the act, is nothing short of criminal. After September 13, 1993, with the Oslo agreement signed on the White House lawn, a new criminal emerged in the days and years afterward—the peace criminal.

Peace, the Prelude to War
By Prof. Paul Eidelberg
Has the desire for peace given Israel peace? Has it not resulted in Israel’s truncation, humiliation, and emasculation? Has not the desire for peace, uttered ad nausea by Israeli politicians, rendered this country increasingly dependent on distant America and thus more vulnerable to war? That anyone should expect peace from Arab regimes invariably ruled by force and fraud is a question for a psychiatrist. Consider.

ISRAEL’S NUCLEAR DETERRENT #1 & #2
ISRAEL’S NUCLEAR DETERRENT #1: Israel’s Nuclear Policy Fiasco after Its Hamas Contretemps forwarded with comments by Emanuel A. Winston
After you read the following perhaps HaShem’s mandate that "Israel is a Nation who must dwell alone" will be understood. Israel has been sold out for a cheap trick to bring Iran to the Security Council where nothing will happen. Please watch for a follow-on article, entitled "THE DE-NUCLEARIZATION OF ISRAEL". Comments by Emanuel Winston
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis February 4, 2006, 11:34 PM DEBKAfile -
Israel’s Nuclear Policy Fiasco after Its Hamas Contretemps
Washington and the European Union are congratulating themselves on getting 27 of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s 35 members to refer the Iranian nuclear program to the UN Security Council. This is still a long way from sanctions. But the diplomatic achievement was achieved at a price, one that was paid for by the collapse of a fundamental Israeli policy platform just two weeks after the interim Olmert government was rocked back by the Islamic Hamas terror group’s attainment of enough parliamentary seats to form the next Palestinian government.

The Teflon Political Party
by Evelyn Gordon
THE JERUSALEM POST - Feb. 1, 2006
If Bill Clinton was the Teflon president, Kadima is clearly the Teflon party. Over the past two weeks, there has been a string of disturbing revelations about the implementation and impact of Kadima's key policy initiative, the disengagement. Yet thus far, the party's public support has not even been dented.
Last week, for instance, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss published a report on the fortification of communities near Gaza - or, more accurately, the lack thereof. The government decided to fortify these towns shortly after it approved the disengagement, as it knew that the pullout would increase the risk of rocket and mortar fire from Gaza. Yet in the 20 months since then, not only has the work not been completed; in most communities, it has not even begun.
