the Ministry of Education for allowing teenagers being held for blocking
roads in protest of the disengagement to take matriculation exams behind bars.

Arabs may hate us unabatingly and viscerally, but they study us and ape our national rites. Take our sirens and our standing at mournful attention to commemorate Holocaust martyrs and fallen soldiers. Palestinians lifted these lock, stock and solemnity. On May 15, the Gregorian date of our Independence Day, they sounded sirens, ceased all activity, obeyed a moment's silence and stood at attention - all to deplore the existence of the Jewish state, the very one toward which their head honchos assure the world (in English) that they harbor peaceful intentions.

The Fatal Myth of Peace

Back in September 1976, I asked Defense Minister Shimon Peres’ political adviser, Asher Ben-Natan, “What is Israel’s major problem?” He replied: “We can’t lie as well as the Arabs.” Mr. Ben-Natan’s reply actually reveals the basic cause of Israel’s malaise: the failure or inability of Israel’s ruling elites to tell the truth about the one issue on which Arabs allegedly excel Jews in mendacity—the issue of peace.
