The Freeman Center vs. AIPAC: The Truth and the Consequences

by Bernard J. Shapiro

5 June, 2008

We recently were witness to the large AIPAC Conference in Washington D.C. All the presidential candidates plus many Israeli and American political leaders spoke to the group. These included: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Ehud Olmert, John McCain, Condoleezza Rice, Ehud Olmert, Benjamin Netanyahu, and other major political leaders.

There are many Americans (especially in the State Department, CIA, academic, Muslim and left-wing communities) who believe that AIPAC is an evil force that distorts US Middle East policy to our detriment. On the other hand, there are many pro-Israel Jews and Christians who believe that it is indispensable to the defense of Israeli interests in Washington. Tens of millions of dollars are raised annually to support this organization.

The Truth is not found in these two views of AIPAC described above. Up until 1992, one could say that the second positive view of AIPAC was correct. For many years Tom Dine headed that organization and led a never-ending battle supporting Israel and Zionism. Then, in the Israeli election of 1992, Labor leaders Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres took over Israel. Rabin became Prime Minister and Peres a Foreign Minister.

Peres with his associate, extreme anti-Zionist Yossi Beilin, began negotiating with the outlawed terrorist PLO. It became necessary to emasculate AIPAC to prevent American Jewish criticism of the planed Oslo Agreements. Dine was ousted after many years of great service in a very nasty coup. AIPAC was now in the hands of pliable leaders who would follow every lead of the Israeli government, NO MATTER HOW SELF DESTRUCTIVE.

And those self destructive plans came one after another in rapid succession: Oslo, Hebron, Wye, Road Map, Expulsion of Jews from Gaza, restriction on building in Judea and Samaria, persecution of religious Jews and violation of their civil and human rights, and finally, the elimination of the Jewish right to self defense. Education in Israel ceased being patriotic or Zionist and building a Palestinian pseudo-state became the goal of the Israeli Government. AIPAC said nothing and cheered the government’s mad dash to dismantle the long-sought-for Jewish State.

THE BOTTOM LINE

There are still some TRUE Zionist organizations in America. The ones that have fought the longest and the hardest for Israel are Americans For A Safe Israel, Freeman Center For Strategic Studies, Zionist Organization of America, and Pastor John Hagee’s Christians United For Israel. These are the organizations deserving of your support.

OUR PRO-ISRAEL PHILOSOPHY COMPARED TO AIPAC

1. TRUE ZIONISTS: All of Eretz Yisrael belongs in perpetuity to the Jewish People.
AIPAC: We will negotiate away any part of Eretz Israel which the government believes will bring "peace".

2. ZIONISTS: Israel’s right of self defense should be aggressive and not dependent on American or world opinion.
AIPAC: Israel’s defense should be based on what America allows and what world public opinion finds acceptable.

3. ZIONISTS: It is moral and just to expel or transfer a hostile, terrorist-loving population from Israel. No racial implication, only behavioral characteristics. For example: Those who want to kill us should not be our neighbors.
AIPAC: It is immoral to transfer Arabs, but it is moral to transfer and expel Jews, as in Gush Katif and Yesha.

4. ZIONISTS: Gaza should be re-conquered, put under total siege, and starved until the Hamas terrorists surrender. Than means no food, water, medical supplies, electricity or fuel (which they use to fire rockets into Israel).
AIPAC: Humanitarian aid should flow to Gaza and a cease-fire that leaves Hamas in place to continue the war should be worked out.

5. ZIONISTS: In order to save IDF lives, no consideration should be made for civilian "human shield" of Hamas. Stand off artillery and aircraft bombs should soften targets before ground invasion. Civilian casualties should be NO more considered than the Allies did during WWI in Dresden and Hiroshima.
AIPAC: The IDF military must act with great restraint, even if this means many more Israeli soldiers' deaths.

6. ZIONISTS: No negotiations on the Golan, except demanding the Syrians return to the lines following the Israeli victory of 1973.
AIPAC: Whatever the Israeli government wants to do.

7. ZIONISTS: Protect all of Israel’s water resources, including the Golan, the Judean-Samarian mountain aquifer, as well as prevent the pollution of water resources by sewage spill off Gaza coast and from Arab villages.
AIPAC: Support the Israeli governments plans to give away most of Israel’s water resources to hostile enemies. And then they would want to replace this water through costly desalination schemes.

8. ZIONISTS: Would make Israel militarily independent of America and turn the relationship into a true alliance. Now it is an asymmetrical relationship, despite the fact Israel supplies the US approximately 5 times the military aid as America supplies Israel.
AIPAC: Loves to boast about its getting weapons from America, but never reveals the hidden cost. Every deal adds to the diplomatic pressure on Israel foreign policy. Every deal ends up in massive sales to Arab enemy countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Every deal has some detrimental effect on Israel’s local military industries.

9. ZIONISTS: Never discuss or give away any part of Jerusalem, and also take over the Temple Mount from Islamic control. And of course allow regular Jewish prayer on the Mount.
AIPAC: Israel should not offend Muslims by asserting Jewish rights in Jerusalem and the Temple mount.

I could list many more differences between true American Zionist organizations and the pseudoZionists at AIPAC . The above is enough for you to make a decision on who to support.

I am posting this article in response to an email I got from Shirley Lewis as follows:

I was accidently invited to a very small, rich donor AIPAC early morning meeting, with Nita Lowey, a supposedly very pro-Israel congressperson.

Here is what I learned. AIPAC and the Jewish pro-Israel contingent in Congress are delusional about Abbas. They actually think he is a peace partner and if he does not “make peace” it is the fault of the more right wing people in PA/Fatah. Yes you have read this correctly.

Also, they are clueless about the fact that all the land in true international law belongs to the Jews. They are also clueless about UNESCO perfidy. Lowey says UNESCO does good things, if they had not admitted PA to membership she would still be funding them – Lowey is on a key appropriations committee, she chairs it. She is also clueless about OXFAM, just mad at them for being anti-Sodastream, the fact that OXFAM is rabidly anti-Israel escapes her and she says she funds OXFAM too.

But, Abu Mazen is a Man of Peace.…

By Yoram Ettinger

27 April, 2010

Since 2007, US foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority and to PA-controlled NGOs reached nearly $2BN, in addition to $3.7BN contributed by the US to UNRWA since 1950. Has American foreign aid to Abu Mazen advanced moderation, the pursuit of peace and US national security interests?

<a href="http://www.bidvertiser.com/bdv/BidVertiser/bdv_publisher_toolbar_creator.dbm"&
gt;toolbar</a>

On April 20, 2010, Abu Mazen named a Ramallah street in honor of Abu Jihad, the architect of PLO terrorism during 1965-1988.  For example, Abu Jihad masterminded the March 11, 1978 Israeli Coastal Road Massacre, hijacking two civilian buses, murdering 38 civilians, including 13 children and wounding 71. He also orchestrated the March 1975 Tel Aviv Hotel Savoy Massacre, murdering 7 civilians.

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

On March 11, 2010, Abu Mazen-controlled TV and dailies (Al-Ayam and Al-Khayat Al-Jedida) praised Dalal Mughrabi – who commanded the Coastal Road Massacre – as a martyr. On January 16, 2010, Abu Mazen announced that a major square in El-Bireh shall be named in honor of Mughrabi. The PA also named a Hebron girls school, a computers center, a summer camp and a sport tournament in honor of Mughrabi.

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

Abu Mazen and Salam Fayyad authorize the transfer of monthly allowances to families of Palestinian “martyrs”/terrorists. They pay condolences visits to families of suicide bombers, acclaiming them as national heroes.

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

In 1994 Abu Mazen instituted – as Arafat’s Deputy – an unprecedented system of hate-education through the PA-controlled school, media and mosque systems. Since January 2005 – when he replaced Arafat – Abu Mazen has perpetuated the anti-Jewish, anti-Israel and anti-US hate education. Mein Kampf and the anti-Semitic “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” are best sellers.  Hitler and suicide-bombers are folk heroes.  Hate-education, and not a dialogue with Western policy-makers and public-opinion molders, reflects Abu Mazen’s ideology/strategy.  Hate-education cements Palestinian national identity. It feeds the root cause of the Arab-Israeli conflict: the de-legitimization of the existence – and not the size – of the Jewish State.  Hate-education has been the main manufacturing line of terrorists in general and suicide bombers in particular. Western indifference toward Hitler’s hate-education facilitated unprecedented human calamity.

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

Abu Mazen’s education system de-humanizes the Jewish State, heralds a religious war against the Jewish State (10th grade Islamic Education – part II, p.50), idolizes martyrs/suicide bombers who “live next to Allah” and “whose blood is pure,” (5th grade Our Beautiful Language pp.26, 31,36,70; 10th grade Grammar p.30, 146), denies  Mideast roots of the Jewish State, fuels anti-Semitism, glorifies “the claim of return” (code name for Israel’s destruction) and promotes Holocaust Denial (Modern World History, p. 83).

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

On August 13, 2009, Abu Mazen ratified the resolutions of Fatah’s 6th General Conference.  For instance, “Armed struggle is a strategy, not a tactic… for the elimination of the Zionist presence.  The struggle shall not end until the Zionist entity is eliminated and Palestine is liberated (article 19)… Popular armed revolution is the only way to liberate Palestine…Opposing the recognition of Israel as a Jewish State…”

The US would not fund hate-education in America, but it funds a hate-education regime. Has the US examined the proposition that Abu Mazen is, supposedly, a man of peace?

Abu Mazen was Arafat’s top confidant and First Deputy for 50 years, partaking in the betrayal of Arab host countries: Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Kuwait. He enrolled in KGB courses and submitted a doctorate thesis – which reaffirmed Holocaust Denial – at the Moscow University.  Abu Mazen coordinated PLO ties with ruthless Communist regimes, supervised the logistics of the 1972 Munich Massacre (11 Israeli athletes murdered), co-supervised the March 1973 murder of two US ambassadors in Sudan, was a key member of the Palestinian cell of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo and earned the nickname  “Mr. 20%”  due to his corruption.

But, Abu Mazen is a man of peace….

Ignoring Abu Mazen’s horrific track record of the last 50 years, and applying moral equivalence and even-handedness, constitutes a victory to wishful-thinking, rewarding terrorism, adding fuel to the fire of terrorism and Middle East turbulence, at the expense of peace and vital US interests.
