FREEMAN CENTER ELECTION BLOG SIX DAYS UNTIL ELECTION
by Bernard J. Shapiro

TO FREEMAN CENTER SUPPORTERS:

The political climate in Israel is finally beginning to heat up. Kadima is gradually sliding in the polls and the polls themselves are suspect. I have been in day to day, face to face contact with Israeli voters for almost three weeks. While many are still apathetic, a few words explaining how crucial this election will be for Israelís future seems to turn them around. Young people (18-30) are often completely lacking in good strategic information as well as the Right of Israel to the Lands of Israel.

I start to explain that giving up Judea and Samaria is not only wrong and against Jewish Rights but also disastrous for many other reasons. It is not just homes of "settlers" at risk, but also 30% of Israelís water supply. From the Judean-Samarian mountain ridge that Olmert is anxious to give to a Hamastan (a terror state), rockets can easily be fired on the heavily populated coastal plan of Israel. While rockets from Gaza frequently miss their targets, the coastal plain from Ashdod to Haifa has 80% of Israelís population and industry. One doesnít even have to aim and damage will be done.
And then there is Ben Gurion Airport, which Olmert wants to put within anti-aircraft and mortar range of Hamas terrorists. If Olmert is elected then travelers on the important Tel Aviv-Jerusalem Highway would be within rifle range of snipers.

THERE YOU HAVE IT. OLMERT IS DANGEROUS FOR ISRAEL AND THE JEWS.

But there is hope. A full 20% of the electorate has not yet decided on who to vote for. That translates into 24 Knesset seats - more than enough to swing that body from the extreme Left to the responsible Right. Also as many as 75% of persons questioned by pollsters, refuse to answer questions. We believe that this is because of fear from this human rights violating (and free speech crushing) government. Many of those people will vote to rid Israel of Olmert and his totalitarian rule.

Another factor is that the Right is now moving aggressively to capture the votes of the undecided. I was greatly inspired by listening to Rabbi Benny Elon yesterday encouraging us to go door to door and explain the issues to the voters.

I have passed out hundreds of bumber stickers (OLMERT IS BAD FOR THE JEWS or OLMERT IS DANGEROUS TO THE JEWS). The public seems very responsive and signs and stickers are going up all of Jerusalem.

We must all pray for victory in this crucial battle for Israelís survival and security as a Jewish State.
